“But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses” (1Tim 6:11-12).

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled” (2Co 10:3-6).

Did you know, that in Christ, you are super victorious? You may not feel like it and your circumstances may indicate otherwise, but you are a conqueror because Jesus triumphed over the powers of darkness! Truly, the battle belongs to the Lord and we participate in His victory—always!

God will turn every circumstance for good, and what may look hopeless will become a victory in Christ. When we learn to live this principle as truth, we ward off fear and hopelessness, and remain in God’s peace and joy. We live with an expectation of a future filled with the blessings of God!

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” (Eph 6:10-17).

The Bible blesses peacemakers, but also exhorts us to “fight the good fight”. This last phrase is not an exhortation to attack other people, but to resist the devil and our own sinful desires. This reading plan presents seven Bible verses about this topic. It can be combined with our other Reading Plans: “The Great Battle” and “The Battle Is the Lord’s”.

The Lord keeps reminds us that Jesus paid the price on the cross and fought the battle for us. If you are in a battle, Jesus already paid the price for whatever you are dealing with – physical health, marriage issues, work issues, mental health issues… every battle that has ever, or will ever come your way, was won on calvary 2000 years ago. Every enemy is defeated in Jesus Name!

So, fight with faith for the winner’s prize! Lay your hands upon eternal life, to which you were called and about which you made the good confession before the multitude of witnesses!

“I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me” (Psa 118:5-7).

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isa 28:28-31).

I Will Fight The Good Fight

I will fight the good fight, I will to the end . . . my faith in Jesus I will always defend. I will battle my foes, I will wager my life even if my trust in God causes me worldly strife. I will go off to war, I will face my rivals my hope in Jesus they will never stifle. I will wrestle my enemy, I will face the struggle for my devotion to God they can never muzzle.
I will fight the good fight, I will not ever give in for I know in the end . . . Jesus is going to win!

Life in this world is a fight, a wrestling match if you would, do you notice the struggle? Two forces at odds with one another, both striving for the mastery. Both want on top, we can use this wrestling match to illustrate our Christian life in one of two ways, first, if we look at the pair, there is the good and the evil, the spiritual and the fleshly, struggling for the mastery of our life, second, if we look at each individual we would find an internal struggle.

The one on the bottom is struggling with losing, wanting to win, trying to figure a way to get on top, while making sure he does not get pinned on the bottom, the one on the top is struggling with winning, wanting not to lose, trying to figure out how to pin the other without losing the advantage and ending up on the bottom, possibly pinned. Can you see the parallel with our Christian life, it is a struggle, a wrestling match, a fight. I want to encourage you to live for Christ. It will not be easy – it will be a struggle, a wrestling match, a fight! But we must persevere – we must continue on in the faith – the stakes are high – eternal, in fact!
