I Know Whom I Have Believed

July 28,2024

“Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us” (2Ti 1:11-14).

“You know God as you believe in him. That is what Paul says here, “I know whom I have believed.” He is talking about his new trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. You say, “Well I don’t know God, and you say that all men know him,” but you have never put your trust in him. You have kept him at a distance from your life. Do you notice that Paul speaks of what he has “entrusted to God for that day”. He is not specific in telling us what it is and so let us look at it carefully. Literally it means that God was able to guard Paul’s deposit for that day. We deposit our hearts with God. Our heavenly Father speaks in the book of Pro 23:26 and he says to us, “My son give me your heart”.

In the beginning of the Christian walk we are primarily concerned with WHAT we believe. We depend heavily upon other Christians,

the pastor, or the church to tell us what we should believe. Our belief systems are established according to what we hear, see, or are taught during these formative years of spiritual development. Not being experienced in the ways of the Lord we naturally give attention to those Christians who have known the Lord longer that we may learn the essential doctrines of our faith. Whoever or whatever influences us as a spiritual child will usually shape and mold us into what we will become twenty, thirty, or fifty years hence.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith” (Rom 1:14-17).

“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture” (Psa 100:1-3).

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 8:35-39).

“Faith is not knowing what the future holds, but knowing who holds the future.” It’s easy to trust God when everything is going well, but what about when everything seems to be falling apart? We have to fully submit to God and trust everything He allows to happen which I know isn’t always the easiest task, but God is in control and knows everything.

Trying to be in control and give control to someone else just doesn’t work. That can’t co-exist in the same heart. You have to give your WHOLE heart to God. If you can give your heart to your high school sweetheart, your college boyfriend, and whomever else along your journey of life, don’t you think you can put it in the hands of God? They are the safest hands your heart will ever be placed in.

When God is holding your heart and you trust Him completely, you will have an overwhelming sense of peace about everything life throws at you.

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isa 41:10),

“Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD” (Jer 17:5).

“And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all” (Acts 3:16)

Lord, we praise you for your steadfast love that wakes us up every morning with new mercy for your unfailing, never-ending, always

dependable love for us, and for the reality that nothing can separate us from your love.

To grow, to learn and to make a difference, we have to come out of our comfort zone. Staying in the zone of comfort with the knowledge and things you are easy and relaxed with, will result in the rusting of your mind.

“Great things never came from comfort zones”

Turning our thoughts to Jesus calms our weary hearts and relieves the heaviness of carrying the weight of our problems. We will discover less stress and more peace when we stop overthinking and focus on God and his goodness.

Life is like a stormy sea That tosses to and fro, But God's Word will ever be A ballast for my soul; By its truth I'll be held fast Till I reach heaven's shore Where I will be home at last And sail life's sea no more! ~ Perry Boardman ~

Trusting the Lord, with each new day knowing He’ll show me the righteous way.

Praying for wisdom, and for guidance too knowing He’ll show me what I should do. Waiting for answers, to my requests knowing He’ll show me when the time is best. Holding on to hope, embracing His love knowing He’ll show me what He is made of. Trusting in the Lord, with all of my soul letting Him with my life have complete control.
