EMPLOYMENT 2013 / 05 - 08

JOHO ARCHITECTURE

Architecture Intern, Project Leader / Seoul, South Korea

Worked at a small Architecture and Design Studio, my duties primary consisted of myself working on interior layout and exterior design for small residential projects. Secondary duties included working with a small team on international competitions and eventually, being one of the project heads for the last competition before my departure.

2013 - Present

UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO

Introduction Revit Lecturer / Toronto, Ontario

Instructing introductory workshops for students at the University of Toronto, I lectured students on the main mechanics and layout for Revit Architecture. The workshops are intended for U of T students to gain a basic grasp on Revit Architecture so that towards the end of class, students are able to design basic structures, allowing themselves to practice on their own. I will possibly be introducing Rhino workshops for fall 2013.

2012 / 09 - 12

KPMB ARCHITECTS Architecture Intern / Toronto, Ontario

During my time with KPMB I worked on a large education center and a public infrastructure project. Unfortunately both projects remain highly confidential I have refrained from displaying them in my portfolio. During my time with KPMB I enhanced my AutoCAD skills and developed a system of transferring files from Revit to Rhino. For the two projects I worked on the Design Development portion of each project as well attend most meetings with clients and contractors.

2012 / 01 - 04

ATELIER PRO Architecture Intern / Den Hague, Netherlands

After being taught Revit, I primarily worked on large group projects and competition with the firm. I mostly worked on education centers and the Helsinki Library competition where I helped design the façade and children’s room. For final renderings, Maxwell and Photoshop were primary used.

2011 / 05 - 08

WESTERN DEVELOPMENT MUSEUM Exhibit Design and Construction Assistant / Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Working at the back of house at the WDM, I drastically enhanced my workshop abilities manufacturing museum exhibition pieces as well designing exhibit stands and support pieces. Working with the museum I was also taught proper management and handling of historic artifacts.

WELLESLEY PERFORMANCE HALL 2013 / 08

Toronto, Ontario / Design Studio 3A Stacked truss volumes surround the Wellesley Performance hall containing necessary functions as well creating a signature faรงade design with the visible trusses. A second outdoor theatre space located on top of the trusses is accessible by a large interactive interior pathway that loops through the trusses allowing private space visible to the public. In order to diffuse the boundary of theatre, the main fly tower has the ability to lift above grade which can allow the theatre space to extend outdoors with sets or audience seating.

12 YMCA Case Study

YMCA CASE STUDY 2013 / 02

Toronto, Ontario / Design Studio 3A Illustrating how a building functions is a difficult task, especially when the main design theme needs to be incorporated into the illustration. For the YMCA Building case study, drawings needed to incorporate large cylindrical corridors that act as arteries within the building. For the section below, I sliced the building directly through the corridors showing connections with main public functions and how the corridors allow views of the users within the building.

14 Portland Cemetery

PORTLAND CREMATORY / CEMETERY 2012 / 08

Toronto, Ontario / Design Studio 2B Combining a botanical garden and cemetery, a project designed to restore and eventually create a wildlife park for the endangered Carolinian forest in southern Ontario. Trees planted on top of cremated remains act as tombstones while site maintenance would gradually reduce allowing the site to deteriorate over time. Forest growth would slowly increase as the site deteriorates, recreating a forest after 150 years. Preservation of historical buildings for ceremonial functions and grinding existing concrete pads will create gabion baskets. Stacked gabion baskets will create proper root depths for trees due to the contamination of the existing Portland soil.

RESTORE Year_00 Retain historic warehouse facades while demolishing additions and renovations

RECYCLE Year_01 Grind Concrete pads and use for Gabion Baskets, Stacking of baskets filled with recyled soil used as initial habitat for newly planted trees.

INFILL Year_02 >25 Tree Tombstones used as infill designed to recreate a natural Carolinian Forest Ecosystem.

PROPAGATION Year_25+ Cemetery slowly becomes natural ecosystem allowing natural propagation and regenuration.

18 Guovssahasah Hotel

GUOVSSAHASAH HOTEL 2012 / 04

Rovaniemi, Finland / Arch Medium International Competition Sami People, indigenous to Finland bless the aurora borealis with the name guovssahasah. Guovssahasah refers to an audible light; a term so profound it symbolizes an orchestra of the night. The Guovssahasah Hotel was designed for the patrons to absorb the audible light while enjoying three unique views of the taiga forest. In order for the hotel to reach three stories pilotis shoot though the structure lifting it above the ground. Timber cut locally by the process of selective cutting creates a large trail that loops throughout the site.

20 Galt Hotel

GALT HOTEL 2011 / 11

Cambridge, Ontario/ 2B Studio Designed to act as the initial step for the revitalization of downtown Cambridge, the hotel itself was inspired by the cities rugged soil. Playing with the rocky ground by cutting and lifting portions of the building, it dips above and below grade playing with the rugged earth and endless skies. A large stepped park drapes over the site and portions of the building. These green steps would transform into spaces that the current city was lacking such as a community garden and an amphitheatre.

24 Framed Pension

FRAMED PENSION 2013 / 06

Gwangju, South Korea/ JOHO Architecture The Framed Pension project was designed for a closed competition which required accommodations, a chapel and retail space. Using minimal design with one main organic gesture, the pension swoops across the sky creating a blank canvas which would frame the views of surrounding landscape for the chapel. Green roofing allows the public to have an increased observation of the parks lake and surroundings and the building would morph into the ground blurring the contrast of building and nature.

26 Helsinki Library

HELSINKI LIBRARY 2012 / 04

Helsink, Finland/ AtelierPRO Inspired by the yearly thaw of ice sheets surrounding Helsinki; the building takes cue from the cracked crevasses and overlapping ice sheets caused by ocean waves. Inside the central lobby, natural light streams from above seeping across the scattered overlapping floor plates. Environmental design is heavily incorporated in the faรงade increasing natural light during winter and reducing light during summer. This is achieved due to the glass faรงade protruding inwards and outwards in a continuous fashion.
