Welcome2Flatland Welcome2Flatland brings Edward A. Abbott’s eponymous novella to life, using creative lighting, architecture and more to re-imagine the book’s ideas and imagery as a public art installation. Created by award-winning Malaysian art duo TerryandTheCuz, this installation explores contemporary attitudes towards multiculturalism and offers a highly rewarding visual experience.

Kuala Lumpur’s Japan Foundation brings one of Japan’s most beloved traditional stage arts to Penang. Bunraku combines sung narratives, instrumentals and expert puppetry to form a fantastically creative show sure to entertain audiences young and old. With three puppeteers assigned to each puppet, the show is an impressive display of teamwork and artistry.

Isaac Hou Isaac Hou has been globally recognized for his awe-inspiring oneman acrobatic performances, which can include juggling, torch juggling, rope walking, and expertly balancing a Cyr wheel. Since the beginning of his artistic career in 2006, Isaac Hou has performed in more than thirty countries around the world.

Intriguing Instruments

Urban Distortions Created by Brussels-based dance company t.r.a.n.s.i.t.s.c.a.p.e, Urban Distortions is equal parts installation and performance art. Dancers and musicians move, sing, play and interact with one another in transparent, inflatable bubbles, lending a refreshing intimacy to their craft while allowing participants to witness their art in new and unique ways.

Cette Immense Intimité In French dance troupe Retouramont’s Cette Immense Intimité, a solo aerial dancer performs while suspended in mid-air against the simple backdrop of a wall. The dancer’s graceful movements interact with the light to create surreal shadows behind her, subtly highlighting the shapes her body as she dances freely in the skies.

In Intriguing Instruments, Australian percussionist Robbie Avenaim will feature an astoundingly unique array of artificial, robotic percussion instruments which will attempt to reinterpret Malaysian musical culture through technology and complex rhythms. This energetic performance will challenge audience perceptions of what music can be.

Cross Waves & Moving Jetties In Cross Waves & Moving Jetties, the ferry, the Butterworth jetty, and the street will be transformed into a stage in a delightful journey of dance, play and memory. Performers will use movement and music to connect with commuters as they travel between the island and the mainland. This show will be restaged in Hong Kong and Singapore as part of an Island Trilogy.
