We were participating in a large careers expo event and needed takeaway material for visitors that explained how apprenticeships work and the variety of roles they lead to. The apprenticeship system is complicated, so we needed to provide essential details to pique curiosity and inspire follow ups. Hence the Handbook was born, designed using bite-sized chunks of information to give the reader key facts, insights and inspiration about how to get on track for an apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship Pathways Handbook, CITB

PEER - flexible apprenticeship training Keeping track of apprentices to ensure their training will be completed is a terrific challenge. Construction apprentices and their employers need to juggle how the apprentices’ time is spent onsite building stuff and at trade school learning theory and techniques. The brief was to write an article to inform employers about the benefits of PEER’s flexible training approach for publication in industry magazines, online and in print.

CITB - 5 Reasons to Start a Career in Construction (brochure)

CITB were planning to attend several career and trades expos and needed a promotional brochure to explain the variety of roles available in the industry. The content was designed to be easy for the audience to grasp the key benefits quickly given the number of other exhibitors and distractions. The content on the front cover gives a snapshot and makes it easy to understand the benefits and arouse curiosity. The inside of the brochure explains the career pathway using direct and precise language. This approach was used to consolidate career pathway information, making it simple and quick for the reader to get an idea about opportunties from starting out as an apprentice to established practitioner.

As a start-up, the team at Futureprojex needed a shiny new website that explained the complicated area of transforming a business into something better for staff and stakeholders while also creating a competitive edge. It took me some time to get my head around what they do and the experience helped me realise I could tackle, well, anything related to creating credibility for a business — you have to ask lots of questions and think like a team member and a customer (not at the same time).

CITB The brief to compile news media stories was part of a defensive and offensive strategic approach. The task involved working closely with an established public relations professional with key contacts in government and media. Together, we formed a fierce team, using my skills for sourcing stories and interviewing and his expertise in press release writing and getting the right people to listen at the right time. This resulted in a string of good news stories published across local news outlets that led to radio interviews and follow-up media.

Campaign Management

CITB - promoting further skills training (2017)

The brief to produce a campaign that promotes further skills training targeting construction workers required delivery within a three month period. Timing was critical to fulfill a three year contract with Bianco Construction that involved placement of campaign material across the rear doors of all fifteen of Bianco’s truck fleet. Using my initiative I developed a strategy and creative that was welcomed by management. The entire campaign including creative and execution was managed by myself, delivered on time and within budget.

CITB - increasing awareness of safety training (2018)

Working closely with an external marketing agency, we developed a campaign aimed at increasing awareness of safety training targeting construction workers. During the planning phase I collaborated closely with management to establish campaign objectives and support our agency through the creative process. Concurrently, I coordinated the redevelopment of key webpages critical to campaign success and measurement. The campaign execution across radio and print during football season ensured a response from our target audience measurable across website, email, radio and CITB’s internal database.
