Sometimes, what you have turns out not to meet your requirements. Things change. You need to adapt, fast. That’s where our deep domain expertise is invaluable. Submarine Design Modification Fincantieri builds a wide range of submarines for the Italian Navy. In 2008, it was asked to build submarines to an existing German design. The Italian Navy wanted an alternative escape system for submariners should they get into difficulties in deep water. We have people who know how to modify submarine designs safely, taking into account the impact of deep water on the human body. Our people designed and tested a new escape tower for Fincantieri, adapting the original blueprint to meet the Navy’s requirements, and saving four months over the project lifetime.
Range Upgrades The Australian Department of Defence wanted to upgrade its range control and safety system at its Woomera Test Range. We have people who know how to develop trials scenarios, track the locations of assets such as aircraft or weapons, to ensure safety and provide data for post-exercise analysis. Our people used their systems engineering expertise to provide the Woomera Test Range with a modern and cost-effective solution based on a common architecture – addressing obsolescence issues and integrating existing assets. Enhancing Oil Recovery All oil companies want to improve safety, increase reservoir yield and reduce operational costs. We have people who know how to use QinetiQ’s OptaSense® solution to listen to what’s happening underground, bringing sight and sound to an industry traditionally based on touch and feel. By bringing real-time condition monitoring to the process of hydraulic fracturing, operators are able to maximise productivity by making operational decisions during the completion process.
