Once the programme has been designed, the procurement is underway, there is still a need to make sure the solution delivers. Making new technology usable can open up huge opportunities for savings. Air Engineering Sometimes the timing of programmes makes it hard to know if technologies will work together. The UK MOD was developing a new missile to be carried on the future Typhoon aircraft. Both were under simultaneous development. The risk was that integrating the missile onto the platform could impact both programmes. We have people who know how to address complex technical challenges. We were able to test the new missile on an in-service aircraft – a Tornado – and plan a workable integration strategy, mitigating risks. Maritime Engineering The new Type 26 Global Combat Ship is currently being designed by BAE Systems. We have people who know how to assess the impact of structural changes on hull design and system performance. Our “responsive and highly supportive customer support team” has been selected to support BAE Systems’ team of structural engineers, using our Paramarine™ software tool. Release to Service The A400M aircraft is due to come into service in 2014. We have people who know how to deliver test and evaluation services to ensure smooth and risk free release to service. A classic example of our people’s trusted support in the air domain.
Cloud Computing Cloud computing promises huge savings in IT infrastructure and delivery. To date, the beneficiaries of the cloud have largely been small businesses and individuals. For the public sector and large companies, security concerns outweigh potential benefits. We have people who know how to make cloud computing safe, and we’re already delivering it in the US. In the UK, our people have worked with Skyscape Cloud Services to deliver assured cloud computing. Cheshire and Northamptonshire Police forces are among the first public sector organisations to publicise their use of Skyscape’s cloud services assured by QinetiQ.
