TRASHES 2 SYSTEMS
DEVELOPMENT AND THE DREAM ABOUT SOMETHING BETTER
How do different areas throw theirs trashes? Seems like there is two systems within this area, one formal that BMC takes care of and one is informal. In this bigger system of trash you can find smaller systems that move trashes from household to the stations. The informal stations are often close to the common toilettes and bigger open areas outside of the dense housing areas. No one comes where and takes away the trashes instead sometimes they burn the pile so it shrinks.
Talking to the people in the area they say that the dream is to have an apartment in a high-rise with their own toilette and kitchen. Today the development has happened along the northwest side and the boarder to the old residential area is everything else but gentle. In the south part of the plan and section the street also has developed water in big pipes under the new pavement.

INFRASTRUCTURE
Since each household doesn’t have their own toilette the community share a common toilettes on the west side of the road. The toilettes have a women and a men side and on the second level the cleaner lives. It costs two rupees to use the toilette witch is the cleaners salary. Some don’t use the toilettes because of different reasons and do their needs where the informal trash stations are. They happened to be behind the toilettes and on the sides.
Within this area the infrastructure of water and road are clearly linked. It seems like the roads are where because of the water drainage and its thanks to the water the roads still exist. This last strip of the Bhatiya Nagar Dharvi Road is not in the same state of development as the rest of it, which in vernacular is called 30ft road because of its width.

FUTURE
QUESTIONS
The area around Bhatiya Nagar Dharvi Road is under development its clear. You can see new plans on apartments on the east side. The oldest high-rise has only been inhabited seven years and since the road has been redeveloped and new high-rises has been build. There are also some open areas near the road that the power company B.E.S.T. owns and will build a power station on. The people are happy and have good hopes on the future and they smile and say – Come back again in 7 years and this will be something completely else!
Since this area is in a stage where a lot of cities already has been redesigned and developed I think this area has a potential to create something new by looking and learning from earlier examples that has been done before. I hope they will asked the questions again and do something new and that the designer of the high-rises sees the qualities and needed spaces that exists on the street level and that the designer tries to keep them in to the new structure.

How should the area be developing? With what kind of strategy? Who will/should/can do it? What can we learn from the redeveloped smaller areas in this area?
