ENDURE BACHELOR PROJECT self-monitoring/ sportsgadget
CONTEXT My Bachelor-project is focused on the current development in sports self-monitoring, in particular running. I analysed the influence of connectivity, social media and digitization on the current changes we witnessed in fitness-trends. My research focused on a practical approach to the question how self-monitoring can change our understanding of these new capabilities that come with new technologies evolving in the future. Trying to find a new approach to future self-monitoring I analysed current products on the market, searched for new technologies, studied the training habits of pro and amateur runners and engaged in basic medical understanding of endurance training.Thats when I narrowed the focus on dehydration and the measures that could enhance endurance training, make it safer and healthier for inexperienced & advanced runners through new self-monitoring capabilities.

The impact of fluid loss on runners depends on a variety of factors and is difficult to determine by applying a rough guide to athletes. It’s further remarkable that dehydration can affect an athlete performance immensly but is given very little recognition in sport science. Not only mentioning the fatigue and loss in performance athletes experience through a insufficient water budget, dehydration is being considered a real threat that can impact the health of a person tremendously. That is why self-monitoring could bring benefits to both encreasing the potential of athletes but also ensuring their physical health, making them train smarter, more effective and safe.

AURES 9TH SEMESTER KHB intelligent safetysystem for whitewater rescue
INSPIRATION
1.751 Floods 2005 - 2014
CONTEXT I was able to complete my last semester at Kunsthochschule Weißensee where we engaged in the world of automation, artificial intelligence and robots to come up with an idea for a “Hidden Helper” that enhances and improves a field of expertise through intelligent technological solutions. I decided to focus on the work of lifeguards, in particular swift-water rescue. The Rescue of people out of natural flowing water or run-off streams in flooded areas, requires a special skill-set by the rescue-team engaging in the task. Swift-water rescue is dangerous and relies on the courage of the rescue-team to sacrifice their own well being. I wanted to develop an intelligent helper to simplify their work and to create a safer environment for them to operate in.

USER SCENARIO
CONCEPT AURES is a concept for an intelligent, automated rescue-system for white-water rescue. It is based on a water-jet driven float connected between the rescue-swimmer and the dry land to help the swimmer manoeuvre, hold a position and elude obstacles that interfere or endanger the rescue-mission. Furthermore the system is more flexible than conventional rope-conncetions enabling the rescue-team to operate from just one fixed point on dry land even with strong stream where the rescue-swimmer is not able to manoeuvre by his own powers. The system is equipped with a variety of sensors to ensure the safety of the swimmer while being in water.

CENSOR PERSONAL PROJECT in cooperation with Lennart Menz, Technikum Wien
INSPIRATION Motivated by Lennart Mentz (Technikum Wien, Sports Equipment Technology) master-thesis: “Development of a measuring system to examine head injuries in European amateur American football players., we decided to join our engineering & design skills and work together to create a sports-gadget designed for research purposes.
DESIGN
I was inspired by nowadays NFL aesthetics, other lifestyle sports-accessories, sports-technologies robust, but still lightweight synthetics & their material properties.
PROTOTYPING
TESTING
IDEA We had a very tight schedule of 2 months to design & prototype our research-sensor to be ready for testing before the German Football League & the Berlin Adler started their season. With this cooperation partner we had the possibility to test & obtain measurement results over the time of a whole season. The design of the sensor is very much application& practical orientated. The idea was to design a cheap, low tech sensor that fits in several helmet-types. Because of technical restrictions the prototype possesses a screw-cap to be able to switch batteries, turn On & Off & to read off the measurement results. The advancement considers wireless data communication, a fitted PCB panel & a bigger battery.

HYBRA 6TH SEMESTER concrete canoe
CONTEXT In the context of the annual concrete-canoe regatta 2015 in Brandenburg & FH Potsdam as host, concepts where designed to represent our college in this tournament. As a promo contest held by the German concrete industry the competition is first of all planned for building engineers to test their planning & engineering-skills. Therefore we worked closely with our own engineers to design representative, individualised & competitive canoes. My concept takes the fact under consideration that the boats are being driven by “ordinary students without any previous knowledge of canoeing. With this in mind, I designed a canoe that is first of all fast on a straight track, but still gives enough stability for lay-riders. Ergonomic seat cushion provide a optimized seated position for a better posture & blood flow in the legs.

CAGOO 5TH SEMESTER cargosharing segway system
CONTEXT The historic district of Spandau is one of the oldest pedestrian areas in Germany. Through historic, social & economic developments & changes of urban building this district has changed dramatically in the past last years. Retail wanes, tourism & social life are reducing. To counteract this development I designed a mobility offer that increases & connects the appeal of retail & creates an interface between different means of transportation. My concept contains a sharing-offer located in historic Spandau to transport your purchases to your car, public transport or straight home. The concept is based on an autonomous segway that follows his user and automatically finds his way back to his charging station.
HISTORIC DISTRICT SPANDAU
INSPIRATION
Cagoo was first of all inspired by the segway principle, making it a versatile vehicle, made to move in confined spaces & larger crowds. Combined with the idea of a cargo-bike & a shopping trolley Cagoo was invented.

KARAFFE KOCH 4TH SEMESTER carafe & glas combination in cooperation with Laura Abbate & OUT
CONTEXT The purity & beauty of glassblowing is one of a kind. We visited several industrial & traditional studios to get an impression of the process of manufacture. We were amazed by the glassblower hard & manual work. The contrast of production and final object inspired us to design a classic & minimalistic combination of a glass & carafe that should inhered the effort & expertise off making glass manually. We were fortune to have a partner in ObjekteUnsererTage (OUT) that offered us to produce and market our product.

CMAC-HALTER was developed on behalf of a hospital in order to deal with the problem of storing their intubators while not in use. Considering the price for the intubation-system it seemed necessary to come up with a reasonable solution to keep them from getting harmed while out of use. The storing-system was required to be economic, reliable, low maintenance and easy to clean. That is why CMAC-HALTER is based on one basic metalsheet-unfolding without any other components. It is designed so that it is being fixed to hold on to the rod of the monitor-unit without any other mounting needed. The stainless steel has a powder coating finish.

COFFEEREADER 2ND SEMESTER coffeecupholder
56
IDEA Coffeereader is smart little gadget for everyone that loves their coffee to go & getting some work done at the same time. Working on the road or in public transportation can be stressful enough. Consider having a hot beverage the same time even worse. Nowadays a laptop gives you the freedom to work where you want but that does not count for your refreshment. This little add-on gives you the possibility to boost your macbook with a cupholder to go. All you need is a sd-card slot & you are ready to work with both hands without having to think about where to put your cup.
