Hellenic Heritage Liveries Baby ALCo Example Historical Bodyshell Painting Variations by J.Likos 2017 likosjo@yahoo.com
This is a quick-and-dirty attempt to revive the enthusiasm to the Hellenic railways by repainting the remaining motive power fleet in vintage and modern colours of all epoques. The basic idea was taken from the American heritage locomotives and was roughly applied on Greek locomotives, so that the model experts and rivet counters can judge for themselves. This example demonstrates the modelled bodyshells of the baby-ALCo hood diesel locomotive type, but it could be also a series of HellasSprinter electric locomotives or ADtranz endcab diesels. It would be wiser to repaint and relocate abandoned or dumped motive power instead of scrapping them. Volunteers of railway museum societies would be rather happy to restaurate and conservate possibly at own expenses the outdated motive power for static display. Some missing spare parts could be improvised at the local shed’s workshop. Each provincial station could have its own exhibit and every station manager would be proud and motivated. This is a simple, practical and cost-efficient proposal to be addressed to the Greek Authorities and specifically to the Ministry Officers of Culture, Tourism and Transportation. This is another way of alternative tourism while attracting foreign and domestic trainspotters at remote provincial locations even outside the touristic season. By exposing conservated locomotives the government’s revenues would increase annually much more compared to selling rusty scrap metal very cheap.
