A start to establishing a sound energy program in North America Eric Jelinski Ontario, Canada
February 4, 2018 There are more than one thing at play and this ought to be interesting…. The first initiative needs to be to stop the subsidies/tax breaks/production tax credits for wind and solar. Also stop the subsidies for ethanol production, ie. burning food in SUV’s for commuting. Glamorizing the 15% efficiency of gas engines has to stop. If gas engines need fuel, use CH4 directly, do not turn methane into fertilizer to grow corn, then turn corn into ethanol….stupid, stupid, stupid. Apply the carbon tax directly onto imports from carbon emitting nations such as China. Taxing ourselves with a carbon tax is analogous to moving money from one pocket to another pocket on the same person….In order for carbon taxes to be meaningful, carbon taxes need to be applied on carbonaceous goods that are imported from other, i.e. competing economies/countries. With respect to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and/or North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), do not give free passes to countries that do not have equivalent labour and environmental laws.
