Recommendations for starting a new nuclear advocacy organization By John Shanahan Dear Good Energy Collective Team, Congratulations on the formation of your professional women's nuclear advocacy group. The nuclear energy program in the USA has done many things right since the 1960s, had outstanding leaders, good management and nuclear power plant staff. I know many of these leaders. But, nuclear power in America is in a terrible situation caused mainly by: 1) Bad government decisions from the 1970s through 2016. 2) Discouraging and expensive regulatory management and functioning. 3) Almost no plans to replace existing nuclear plants with new ones. 4) Almost no plans to extract fertile uranium from used nuclear fuel and depleted uranium. 5) Almost no plans to store the real radioactive waste. 6) Almost no plans to develop nuclear power using thorium. 7) Diminishing enrollment in nuclear power engineering education. France and Switzerland solved many of these problems early on but are now being turned back by anti-nuclear groups and new political leaders who cater to the antinuclear sentiment. South Africa has done an outstanding job with nuclear power and production of radioisotopes. They are also under pressure from anti-nuclear groups. Women want to help solve problems that past nuclear power leadership has not solved. I fully agree that you can do better than the record to date and wish you well. Our website, allaboutenergy.net has an international board of advisors and we strongly encourage women to work with us. See here. 1

I've put outstanding leaders on cc: who can give you good advice. FRANCE - Nuclear Engineer Bruno Comby, Founder - President of Environmentalists for Nuclear - Global, Ecologists for Nuclear, website: www.ecolo.org, Michel Gay, retired from the French Air Force, dedicating full time to education about nuclear energy and the environment. MEXICO - Nuclear Engineer, Florencia de los Angeles Renteria del Toro. She is working on her doctorate in nuclear engineering at Harbin Engineering University in Harbin, China. She is on our Board of Advisors. She earned her MSc in Nuclear Engineering from South Korea and BSc in Chemical Engineering from Mexico. A great young leader with fortitude and international experience. SOUTH AFRICA - Nuclear Scientist Kelvin Kemm, CEO of Nuclear Africa. He has given us lots of expert advice and is on our Board of Advisors. SWITZERLAND - Physicists Irene and Simon Aegerter. Irene is the Founding President of Women in Nuclear - Global. Simon is a leader for nuclear in Switzerland and an expert on climate change. USA - Nuclear Engineer, Kenneth Kok, Editor of the Nuclear Engineering Handbook. Wanda Munn, expert on advanced nuclear reactors. Mary McCormick, radiation science and professional education in radiation science. John Kutsch, Executive Director of Thorium Energy Alliance. You plan to support nuclear as a solution to "the" catastrophic man-made global warming crisis caused by fossil fuels. I offer my two cents worth of advice. Work to get the nuclear industry to solve the seven problems listed above. Work to get nuclear power plant licensing, design of new technologies, construction and guidelines for low-dose radiation corrected. Remember The Confession/Apology of Michael Shellenberger. Leave management of climate change to Mother Nature. Respect the importance of fossil fuels. Sincerely, John A.
