2017 – Issue 2

This newsletter is sent to people interested in nuclear power, nuclear medicine, nuclear technologies and why they are important for people and the environment. Generally, they are connected with John Shanahan on LinkedIn.com and through other professional associations or have signed up on the website: efn-usa.org. You are in 115 countries. Everyone needs to understand a little bit about ionizing radiation, particularly low dose and low dose rate ionizing radiation in order to fully appreciate nuclear energy, nuclear medicine, nuclear technologies and why they are important for people and the environment. We have posted over 110 articles and books for you on the topic low dose radiation Since the 1950s, nuclear power and nuclear medicine have used an artificial rule as radiation safety guideline called the Linear No-Threshold model, LNT. It requires excessive radiation protection that tremendously adds unnecessary to cost of nuclear power plants and prevents full use of important procedures in nuclear medicine. Efforts are underway to switch from LNT to radiation guidelines based on information from real world living organisms. The American Nuclear Society & Health Physics Society are hosting a Joint Topical Conference September 30 – October 3, 2018 in Tri-Cities, Washington, USA to discuss applicability of radiation-response models to low dose protection standards. This is going to be a landmark conference to explore changing from LNT.

The deadline for submission of Abstracts has been extended to March 1, 2018.
