Laws of Physics define the insignificant warming of Earth by CO2: Background and details for Excel

August 11, 2023

The calculation method uses the familiar temperature and relative humidity measurements and the familiar measurement of the level of CO2 at Mauna Loa. The temperature measurements are in Column H of the Excel spreadsheet. The relative humidity is in Column I. The dates for recording these measurements are the 21st of the month for the 12 months of a year and at random times. We were recording the level of CO2 for the same time in Column AR. AccuWeather on a smartphone provides the measurements at each of the 20 weather stations within the same hour.

The Excel spreadsheet for the 12 months of the study is available at Dropbox:

Along the bottom of the spreadsheet are plots of some of the functions. The spreadsheet is at “21st of the month”.

To ensure the temperature and relative humidity measurements represent locations on Earth, we use 20 weather stations in five latitude sections and approximately equally divided between the eastern and western hemispheres.

We then use the Humidair psychrometric program, a mathematical model of the Earth’s atmosphere, to calculate the humidity ratio in grams of water vapor per kilogram (kg) of dry air (Column R). The program uses the same input and calculates the dew point

(Column W), the heat content between McMurdo Station in Antarctica on April 21, 2021, and the other 239 points (Columns AC, AH). It also calculates the specific volume at each station (Column AL). The “ppm” reported by the Mauna Loa Observatory is actually the number of molecules per million molecules of dry air. It is the basis for calculating the level of CO2 as grams per kg of dry air. The level at McMurdo Station in Antarctica is a baseline on April 21, 2021 (Column AR). The temperature contribution as oC by CO2 is in Column BF.

Figures 2 of the paper show the maximum number of molecules of water vapor per CO2 molecule in the Earth’s atmosphere is 107.4. This value is consistent with Table 2 in Back radiation versus CO2 as the cause of climate change, Lightfoot and Mamer, 2017.
