HISTORICAL NOTES BY JOHN SHANAHAN FOR MICHAEL HANCOCK’S INFORMATION The 14 year effort for the website: allaboutenergy.net had its beginning in January, 2010 when John Shanahan organized a letter to President Obama’s Science Advisor, John Holdren, a long time friend of the family. However, Shanahan and Holdren were in opposite camps on the importance of advanced nuclear power for sustaining the modern world. The letter encouraged the White House to a) support commercial nuclear power, b) support development of advanced nuclear power and c) domestic production of radioisotopes for nuclear medicine. Key people and branches of the government including Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and John Holdren had been opposing these technologies or giving them only lip service. John Holdren responded, giving lip service and diplomatic dismissal. He continues his strong opposition to advanced nuclear power technologies that are essential long term use of peaceful nuclear energy. The website has gone through three changes of name, three expansions of mission and many changes of background technical software. The websites were (first) go-nuclear.org, (then) EFN-USA (Environmentalists for Nuclear) and (current) allaboutenergy.net. Only the current website is still active although the names of the first two websites are still visited on Facebook and popular.
