_My name is Johnathan Subendran and I am a second year architecture student currently studying at the University of Waterloo. Although I am at the beginning of my architectural education, I believe I would be an asset. I am passionate, hardworking, responsible and someone who enjoys being part of social setting. I am experienced with Hand Modeling and Drafting as well as a variety of programs such as Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, and AutoCad, that I look to develop further. An opportunity to work at your company would allow me to apply my education and skills as well as benefiting valuable work experience. My passion for design and positivity will be an asset to the workplace as well as learning as much as possible from the people around me. _I envy the power of design and the potential it has to change the world in any way possible. I look to someday impact the world with my ideas, and one day inspire others as well.

01 Urban Micro-Institutions 1B Studio Final Supervisor : Donald McKay Type: Institutions ‘Things not books, a hackers lab and tool library’
This is a space designed for the hacker. The design is driven by the constant flux in the way we use knowledge and how we tailor it for our needs. The average hacker does not need books to configure and create, they require tools and machines and mechanism. The library of tools and modules provides an opportunity for hackers to modify systems and gadgets that reveal more of an in-depth understanding of how things work. For these operations to work, collaboration is an essential factor which will increase the brewing of ideas, resulting in high quality product.

02 makers space 1A Studio Final Supervisor : Rick Andrighetti Type: Single Studio/Home
“A ‘makers space’ that engages in a number of essential oppositions or tensions inherent in many architectural design problems: nature/city, private/public, live/work, active/passive, inside/outside, upper/lower, large general space/small specialized space.” “Three artisans or makers will be provided with accommodation in modest live/work studio. The artisans and their workshops will be part of a larger network of collaborators and collaborative workspaces within the community.”
This spatial frame deals with isolating the working and living space. It allows for the maker to sense a clear understanding of the opposing programs. This is done through, extruding two bodies from one solid form. The two shapes act as two shells that mold the inner program and architecture. However, enduring two forms, it exists as one spatial frame that sculpts a piece of architecture that accommodates modest living as well as a work studio.

‘This competition calls upon students to conceptualize, and realize in detail, a structure of simple program that explores the meaning of recycle. The exploration will, of course, include issues related to program and site, but the emphasis in this competition is upon the architectural exploration through form and material, on the essential relationship between architecture and structure.’
Le Recinto is a spatial frame that creates an engaging environment for community members to gather and interact with one another. A sculpture that spans seamlessly with no end and no start, used as a multi-functional space that could be transformed and occupied to the user’s need. This spatial frame encompasses performance. Performance through presentation, media, sports, and social interaction.

01
The national stadium of Beijing, china also known as the bird’s nest was designed for the 2008 summer Olympics and paralytics. The stadium has brought peoples from around the globe to enjoy the world’s best talent, together in one space. It could be considered as a multi-purpose space; a stage for a variety of sports and performance. The idea of bringing a large mass together within a flexible space was a source of inspiration to the theme ‘recycle’. The outer steel frame was to be recycled as well as the existing metaphors and values the design carried. It became essential that the two should stand strong coherently. The long spans of steel could be easily shaped using various tools such as ‘v’ dies. The existing concepts are translated into an architecture that is entirely different serving a similar purpose.

“A scrap of left over territory is chosen in Cambridge, Ontario as the product of the uncoordinated, overlapping collision of city disorganization. An organized and permanent matrix is created and developed as a whole to accommodate for the architectural infrastructure of the dwellings.
The junk space is a multiple of minimum 50 square meter dwellings that are organized in an area that do not diminish the amenities of the buildings or the spaces around it.

Concept: Three Tier L-shape Stacking Arrangement The stacking arrangement of the three tiers promotes views and outdoor space. The different size tiers is to create an outdoor space, allowing for a balcony and green space for each dwelling to enjoy. Units are south facing which distributes sunlight evenly due to the stair-like arrangement. The L-shape form is to maintain a street presence as the building meets a street intersection. The space then leads into a private outdoor space that the community is able to use and enjoy.

Untouched The beauty of the ‘untouched’ nature is extra-ordinary. Nature’s beauty lies in its most natural form - the ‘untouched’ beauty. The ‘art’ is where an individual is able to articulate a creative demonstration of the natural element. The triangular wooden shapes are to represent nature and with slight manipulation of form it begins to demonstrate the ‘untouched’ beauty .

I Am Johnathan An individual’s character is built of many aspects. It defines who you are and makes you unique from the rest of the crowd. Unfortunately society inevitably attempts to break you apart - convincing the mind to meet a standard or societal norm that may not be you at all. Now it is up to the individual to stay strong and hold the pieces that make you are together or be held down by this cruel world and not be you.
