K reuz berg am Wa s s e r Coherent Spaces is a study that aims to explore new intentions through developing a new adaptable live/work spaces catering the food culture or food production in Berlin Kreuzberg. The site within an underused public park and remains of a broken fragment of the city is where former warehouse typologies were situated. The project aims to defy the basic frameworks by integrating a genuine sense of community, through shared and flexible spaces; achieving an unparalleled coherence in todays necessities.

The curve, hints at nature; green terraces rain down to meet the Aljazira Gardens and Plazas. This open green space will benefit the community and activate the street with a playground, picnic areas and an urban farm. The green terraces, when seen from afar, are pockets of greenery in an urban landscape.

The design of each building has evolved from a detailed analysis of the site, developed out of consideration for Arabic culture, and drawing on the possibilities of a highly innovative construction system. The organic shapes are respectful of the surrounding buildings - for instance, by not blocking views from the Pearl Marzouq housing block - and at the same time they are able to represent a venerable institution such as KFAS through contemporary design and integrated urban and landscape design.

Enclosed Offices
An integral part of the Fraunhofer IAO design strategy is planning for the future. The unique floor plan of the KFAS Headquarters allows for the future work settings anticipated for KFAS. Currently, the floor plan design accommodates for 25% of enclosed office spaces. By 2043, 50% of the office space could be enclosed. These can be located along the perimeter of the facade, where the glazed partitions and voids still allow natural light to filter through to the shared functions in the center. Circulation and chance encounters remain at the center - the core of KFAS.

Year 2023: 25% enclosed office spaces
Private outdoor roof terraces are available to the Offices and Start-ups. The Conference and Meeting rooms have access to a larger roof terrace which can be used for outdoor functions and events.
Parking Parking
In order to maximize space efficiency, a zerostacking automated car parking system is proposed. Drivers enter the basement via a ramp and leave their vehicle at a Transfer Station, where their car is lifted by a parking robot and moved into a space-saving park. The system has minimal construction costs and can provide up to 60% more parking capacity than conventional car parks, allowing flexibility for future use. Conventional car parks are also provided for guests and visitors.
This is achieved with three separate entrances to the building at Ground Floor. The KFAS Foyer is accessed from the main entry and is the primary entrance for KFAS office staff and guests, including access to the Conference and Meeting Facilities at Level 4. A secondary office entrance is located at the Start-ups, allowing separate access for the Start-ups and direct access to Management (Level 5) via elevator. A third entrance is located at the Restaurant, where by the Staff Facilities, such as Gym and Nursery, can be accessed via elevator. This allows these functions to operate outside of normal working hours.
Automated Parking
Once inside the building, individuals are encouraged to travel to their destination via the circulation stairs to the internal voids. The voids move horizontally through the building, connecting all floors and providing visual links and promoting chance encounters. Three elevator cores service the building, located in close proximity to the Ground Floor entrances. The cores provide elevator access from the underground car park at Basement Level to all upper levels. In addition, direct stair access can be found from the underground car park to the Restaurant.

Headquarters Utilization and Circulation Diagram
The views from the building are maximized by placing a variety of functions along the facade. A mixture of enclosed offices, shared spaces and open individual workplaces share the views to the surrounding Science Cape Campus and the magnificent Arabian Gulf. Glazed
partitions allow natural light from the facades to penetrate into the central functions of the office space while maintaining visual connections and transparency throughout the building.

In collaboration with the Fraunhofer IAO, the KFAS Headquarters employs a supportive, modern and flexible work-environment for KFAS Employees. The design of the office areas are flexible and future-proof, combining a mixture of open and enclosed work settings. Enclosed spaces consist of Think-Tanks, various sized meetings rooms and single offices. Open ‘We-Spaces’ consist of work lounges, media-talk and individual work-stations.

TOGETHER WITH THE FOREST suburbia housing project Location: Project/Team:
MuhlefleiĂ&#x;, Berlin Master’s studio Project
Year:
2017
Suburbia is extremly succesful in terms of market mechanics and it is growing. Yet, the current model of suburban life is highly questionable, characterized by a mindless use of land and continuous destruction of landscape as a resource. Instead of purely criticizing the existing, we can look for relevant qualities of the suburban belt along the governmental border between Berlin and Brandenburg to propose an alternative: a dense and green horizontal city that comes up with qualities other than just being metropolitan.
SITE PHOTO DOCUMENTATION
MAPPING THE TREES The drawing is a study of the site in Mühlenfleiß, Berlin, a tree farm near Müggelsee. The trees are drawn based on the compiled images from the archive to show how the trees are cut and planted on the area.

SITE DEVELOPMENT PLAN Inside the Forest The drawing shows where the proposed living units will be placed. It is carefully studied that the residential units will be places 30 m from each other for them to have a feeling of exclusivity but still have a connect through forest paths and haning walkways
