JUST BRILLIANT GUIDES
PARKES PARKES WELCOME to
Parkes Parkes is much loved for the famous Parkes Elvis Festival and CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope, but if you take some time to explore the district there is so much more to discover. With a population of around 12,200, Parkes is supported by a number of industries such as mineral resources, agriculture and retail. The Peak Hill Open Cut Experience is a great way for visitors to learn about mining techniques in the region, both past and present. Self guided tours can be undertaken daily between 9am and 4pm, except for Christmas Day and Good Friday, with free entry.
In Parkes you have the option of visiting any of the quality cafés and boutiques in town, learning a little more about The King or exploring a bygone era at the Henry Parkes Museum. The CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope, star of the movie ‘The Dish,’ is one of Australia’s most prominent landmarks and a must-see attraction while visiting Parkes. The Parkes Radio Telescope Visitor Discovery Centre is open daily. Goobang National Park is located north-east of Parkes and forms the largest area of remnant vegetation in central New South Wales. Visitors are welcome to undertake passive recreational activities such as bushwalking, birdwatching and camping.
For more information on Parkes, please visit www.visitparkes.com.au. Alternatively, drop into the Parkes Visitor Information Centre located on Newell Highway (North).
