Tamworth
NAMED THE "PERFECT COUNTRY TOWN" BY AUSTRALIAN TRAVELLER MAGAZINE, TAMWORTH IS THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS - WHERE THE EASE OF A COUNTRY LIFESTYLE AND THE CONVENIENCE OF CITY FACILITIES ARE YOURS. The Tamworth region – home to the Kamilaroi people for thousands of years – sits within the heart of North West NSW, encompassing the villages of Nundle, Manilla, Barraba, Bendemeer, Kootingal and Somerton. Tamworth itself is a beautiful, vibrant and prosperous regional city located approximately 405kms northwest of Sydney and 570kms south of Brisbane. Tamworth proudly proclaims itself as Australia’s Country Music Capital, which is only one of the many reasons visitors sing its praises as a destination. The region plays host to an abundance of experiences all year round, with attractions appealing to every kind of visitor. It’s a place where you can choose your pace – kick back and relax, indulge in its food and wine offerings, soak up
its vibrant cultural and artistic airs, play sport, feel the rhythm or hit the great outdoors for an adventure. The Tamworth region also boasts an enviable calendar of events year-round which celebrate the diversity of both those who live here and its visitors, including the Toyota Country Music Festival – the largest country music festival in the southern hemisphere, Taste Tamworth Festival, Fiesta La Peel, Nundle Country Picnic, the Great Nundle Dog Race, Nundle Go For Gold Chinese Easter Festival and Frost Over Barraba Arts Festival. For more information on the Tamworth region, visit www.destinationtamworth.com.au or the Tamworth Visitor Information Centre and regional visitor information outlets.

Shopping SHOPPING IN THE TAMWORTH REGION HAS THE PERFECT MIX OF OPTIONS. In Tamworth itself, it means retail shopping, outdoor cafes, easy parking, tree-lined footpaths and a smoke-free CBD. Tamworth offers country service with the style and choice of the city – whether you’re browsing the boutique and specialty shops or retail chains of Peel Street, or exploring major shopping centres including Centrepoint Tamworth, Tamworth Shopping World and Tamworth Square. If it's antiques and collectables you’re after, look no further than the village of Manilla where the old is new all over again. Stop in at Nundle, where charming boutiques and homewares stores will send you home with a full car boot. Or check out Barraba, where friendly and personal service will welcome you every time!

If markets are more your thing, the Tamworth region won’t disappoint with a variety of artisan, farmers and local produce markets to keep you busy each weekend.
Country Music CAPITAL EVERY JANUARY FOR MORE THAN 40 YEARS, TENS OF THOUSANDS OF MUSIC FANS HAVE GATHERED IN TAMWORTH TO TAKE IN THE UNFORGETTABLE ATMOSPHERE OF THE TOYOTA COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL.
There are outdoor concerts headlined by the industry’s biggest names, buskers and market stalls in the CBD, and the chance to get close to your favourite artists in the dynamic Fanzone precinct. Country music’s night of nights is the Toyota Golden Guitar Awards, where stars walk the red carpet, take the stage as presenters and performers, and maybe even get a shot at joining more than 400 Golden Guitar winners since 1973. If you can’t make it in January, don’t fret! There is plenty to see and do in the Country Music Capital of Australia all year round! Naturally, you’ll take a photo in front of the Big Golden Guitar at the Tamworth Visitor Information Centre, and browse the wall of guitars signed by world famous performers including Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Lee Kernaghan, Kasey Chambers, John Williamson, Troy Cassar-Daley and Keith Urban. Visit the likenesses of Smoky Dawson, Buddy Williams, Jimmy Little, Beccy Cole, Chad Morgan and dozens more, with original outfits, settings and personal histories that reflect their lives and times at the Gallery of Stars Wax Museum, before picking up a trail map of the city’s many country music landmarks, taking
you on a journey through from the beginning of the Australian industry to today’s heights. Head out to the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre (TRECC) to have a gander at the Galaxy of Stars, where the top names in country music have been honoured with bronze plaques alongside the Roll of Renown Rocks, which recognise artists for their significant contribution to the industry. Take a walk up Tamworth’s lovely tree and café-lined Peel Street and spot the plaques in the pavement celebrating past Golden Guitar winners. In Bicentennial Park you can visit the Pioneers Parade, where bronze busts of greats such as Tex Morton, Stan Coster and Reg Lindsay line the path. Just down the road, see how your prints match up with the Country Music Hands of Fame, where new inductees leave their mark during the festival every year. Make sure you save plenty of time for the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame, housed in a guitar-shaped building. Featuring Australia’s biggest collection of country music memorabilia and artefacts, it boasts more than 40 exhibits providing real insight into industry greats. You’ll also find the Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame paying tribute to those who helped shape country music in Australia and Walk a Country Mile showcasing an interactive display. Finally, if its live music you’re after, see what’s coming up at venues across the region including The Capitol Theatre, Tamworth Town Hall, TRECC, the Longyard Hotel, Playhouse Hotel and DAG Sheep Station.

The numbers are remarkable: this 10-day event attracts visitors from all over to the Tamworth region for one of the world’s biggest music festivals. With over 700 performers (including buskers) playing over 2,600 shows across 120 venues, it’s an event that has to be experienced to be believed!
