WESTERN RIVERINA
JUST BRILLIANT GUIDES
WELCOME
to Western Riverina In the Western Riverina region lies the townships of Deniliquin and Hay, popular for their own unique attractions. DENILIQUIN
HAY
The regional centre of the vast Riverine plain, Deniliquin, is an oasis on the edge of the outback. The Backroads Trail, located just south of Deniliquin, weaves together themes of indigenous history, environment, food, wine and culture in an informed and user-friendly way.
Situated on the picturesque Murrumbidgee River, Hay boasts a rich history. The Dunera Museum at the Hay Railway Station tells the extraordinary stories of prisoners of war during World War II. Check out Bishop’s Lodge, which is a beautiful architecturally dynamic home surrounded by a heritage garden with remarkable, historic roses. The Gaol Museum holds a wealth of memorabilia celebrating Australia’s fascinating history. Shear Outback offers visitors a great insight into the Australian shearing industry and rural life living off the land.

The Waring Gardens, a delightful park, is an ideal setting for picnics. Further along the main street, a lagoon off the Edward River runs adjacent to the Island Sanctuary. You can walk from the Island Sanctuary to McLean Beach where there is an area perfect for swimming. Alternatively, rent a pontoon boat for a magical day on the river.
