THE POINT
This coastal golf and leisure club will soon be adding energyneutral cabins to its popular wellbeing and holiday cottage offer
The Point at Polzeath is a stylish coastal resort that has been welcoming guests to this exclusive stretch of North Cornwall for more than a decade. Family-run, the 240 acres of land is owned by Jeremy and Eva Davies who, through continued investment, have created a unique luxury holiday location in the hills above Polzeath. Its seven, on-site eco-apartments have arresting views and The Point Holidays also manages a growing number of hand-picked holiday homes both in the grounds at The Point and in the surrounding villages of Polzeath, Rock and Trebetherick. With those extra elements that make a holiday just perfect such as dog-friendly stays, hot tubs, swimming pools, EV charging points and, of course, coastal views, guests are spoiled for choice! With an ever-expanding collection, from stunning cliff top retreats to stylish apartments and cosy cottages, there is a holiday retreat to suit every taste with the added benefit that all of the facilities at The Point are available to every guest; simply follow one of the footpaths from your door to discover them.
The greens of the 18-hole golf course are now considered to be among the best in the county and the presentation is hard to fault with panoramic vistas out over Hayle Bay and Pentire Point. With padel tennis recently added to the health club, alongside traditional courts, those seeking active enjoyment for wellbeing are treated to an indoor heated swimming pool, steam room, sauna, gym, and studio where a variety of classes take place. Having worked up an appetite, guests are rewarded with a menu created by Head Chef Phil Wilson, from fresh, seasonal and local ingredients. This is food with a view, with its floor to ceiling windows and sliding doors to the balcony embracing the view towards Pentire Point. The perfect place to sit and watch the sunset with a meal. The Bear Bar is a perfect place for a sundowner in a relaxing atmosphere with live music and themed evenings taking place throughout the year.
This year sees the addition of 17 modular eco-cabins to The Point within an exclusive, five-acre retreat. Jeremy and Eva’s vision was to: “provide a sustainable and easy maintenance holiday option for owners and guests alike. Owning a holiday property should be a relaxing escape from the stresses of everyday life.” Owners will have a unique holiday experience and benefit from members’ access to The Point’s leisure facilities. In collaboration with Koto Design, the cabins draw inspiration from Scandinavian design and culture, embodying the four pillars of architecture, nature, design and wellness. The site has been kept specifically low density, with landscaping created in partnership with Chelsea award-winning garden designer Darren Hawkes. ‘Re-wilding’ will come in the form of natural indigenous planting, flower and grass meadows and cut-through walkways, anchoring the cabins into the coastal environment.
The remit was to create beautifully designed, fully furnished cabins that would afford stress-free, low maintenance escapes surrounded by nature. The cabin’s designs are such that they nestle seamlessly into the landscape, without detracting from the ever-present ocean views. Owners can tailor the interiors, choosing from a beautiful palette of colours, appliances and soft furnishings, making each one individual. Inventory add-ons are also available so owners can literally unlock the front door and enjoy.
The cabins, encircled with hand-built Cornish stone walling, are built almost entirely of sustainably sourced timbers and clad in British blackened larch with green roofs. Sitting effortlessly into this coastal site, their exterior colours and textures are reminiscent of the surrounding coastal landscape. Particular attention was paid to the siting of the cabins, in order to find the perfect positioning for the individual plots. Each cabin has its own courtyard for privacy and protection, acting as an invitation, rather than a barrier, to the landscape. A large decked area offers shelter from the elements as these cabins are designed for year-round enjoyment. It’s not just the heady heights of summer that makes this stretch of the north Cornish coast so inviting; its autumn hues, spring verdure and wintry wilds are just as inviting.
Internally, the cabins have floor to ceiling windows and large sliding doors dissolving the boundary between outside and in. Kept deliberately minimal, so as not to distract from the views and rather emphasise the landscape and coastline the interiors have a soft, muted palette. Living spaces are open plan, while the bedrooms are hidden retreats tucked away from the main living area.
Two show cabins are currently complete, with two under construction and four more on order.
