Cayman Carnival Batabano, which is also termed as Batabano, is the Caribbean carnival held every year in the Cayman Islands. It is one of the biggest annual events in the Islands, and is quite similar to Mardi Gras. The carnival festivity features events like Soca music, dance, calypso bands and street parades in vibrant feather costumes. This annual event of the Cayman Islands is usually celebrated in the month of May. But this year, the carnival will start on April 25, 2015 and will end on May 2, 2015 with adult street parade. The name Bata ano , given to the arnival ele ration, is a salute to the turtling heritage of the Cayman Islands. The word factually specifies the tracks left in the sand by the sea turtles when they crawl on the beach to their nest. Finding of these tracks on the beach is a forever reason for the celebration. As stated earlier, the carnival celebration is pretty much similar to that of the Mardi Gras carnival celebration, in which the grand street parades is performed in elaborated and colorful featherdecorated costumes along with dance and loud music. In Batabano carnival celebration, two street parades are held during the festivity: one parade for the children (called as Junior Batabano), and other one for adults (known as adult parade). Besides street parades, the carnival attracts people from all over the world because of its calypso bands, Soca music and the dance events, performed during the whole festivity in bright and colorful costumes that are made and decorated using varieties of plumes. Batabano was first launched in the year 1983 by the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman, and marked its presence as a colorful highlight in the entertainment calendar of the Island. This year i.e. 2015, the carnival is starting from April 25, 2015 with Junior Batabano, which is a familyfriendly, fun-filled event where children parade in groups in color-rich costumes and with pleasurable music. After the parade, the family enjoyment continues with face painting, mask decoration, costume competition, snow cones, local cuisines and several other pleasurable activities. On April 30, 2015, the enjoyment level continues with Le Masque, which is a dinner concert.
