I

recently started sliding down the slippery slope that’s the wrong side of 35. Not an easy thing when you still feel 18 years old. But when I think about it rationally, I have aged. Let’s face it, one husband, two kids, a mortgage and ‘big job’ later, life can be a serious business that is more demanding than carefree.

Still, I look up to women who, no matter how old they are, are young at heart and mind. This sense of stylish exuberance is often most evident in the way they portray themselves to the world, whether it’s as subtle as a quirky print or cheerful handbag, or as statement-making as 91-year-old Iris Apfel’s outrageous ensemble on the cover of Dazed & Confused magazine.

I hope that I am able to embrace ageing as happily as these women, who celebrate that with maturity comes the ability to shrug off social pressure around what is, and isn’t, fashionably acceptable.
