I

t’s a pleasure to be writing to you for the first time at such a positive point in the year. December and January are big, feel-good months – the sun’s out, family and friends gather, long-awaited holidays are taken and life slows sufficiently for us to reflect and prepare to welcome a fresh new year. Add to that the transformation afoot at Edgars as ever more stellar brands appear in-store – this year has seen the arrival of Topshop and Topman, Mango, Dune London, Jo Malone and Lucky Denim to name a few – and it feels fortuitous indeed.

So of course we had to bring you an issue to match this abundant mood.

There’s nothing quite like the tropics to bring on an instant holiday glow and they’re quite a feature this season – see our fashion story on page 74 for bold prints, palm motifs and easy-going style. I’m also quite taken by the idea of aspiring to ‘a hammock slung between two palms’ in Tabitha Lasley’s piece Palm Reading on page 48, where she looks at what is driving the tropical trend. Speaking of palm reading, we gathered expert opinions from around the world for our 2014 trend round-up on page 42 so you have the Club inside track on fashion, beauty and lifestyle from the get go.
