It’s back to work… Here’s to a fantastic year ahead filled with new challenges and inspired fashion

started fantasising about Chanel suits a long time before white dresses. The suit said ‘modern’, ‘independent’, ‘successful’ and ‘feminine’, and I wanted that more than a life with any of the annoying boys in my town. I continue to love workwear, especially this season’s softer interpretation, and I’m particularly pleased to see its transition from sidelined basic to catwalk stardom.

Edgars has long been a leader in the workwear department and as top brand after top brand is brought in store, continues to make shopping this look a pleasure. In our feature Game Changers on page 26 and our fashion editorial on page 62 you’ll find ideas on outfits that are both boardroom and beautiful. This fine balance has not always been as easy, or acceptable, to strike as Noreen Johnson explains in her piece on page 42 about the evolution of the working wardrobe and the interesting visual tale it tells about today’s women.

We are no longer confined to choosing one role over the other (yes, I like what those white dresses have to say too), which is why there’s a certain soft touch running through this issue. It is the month of the heart after all. Read about four inspirational women and their fantasy Valentine’s dates on page 36 and find out about the enduring power of that most romantic and powerful of flowers in La Vie En Rose on page 52. And for subtly strong metallic make-up to finish off, turn to Keep Shining on page 68.
