Whether he’s chilling indoors or enjoying nights out on the town, it’s a scent that speaks to any night and “kind of a bit of everything” to suit any man. A fan of classic tailoring, it’s no surprise Kit cites Leonardo DiCaprio

note Da BlaQ-Moss, as he’s more commonly known, is co-founder, photographer, art director and content manager at Timeless Collective, a bunch of young professional creative and media students based in Pretoria. He’s also a third-year pharmacy student at Medunsa. How would you describe your style outlook? It’s timeless – a mixture of vintage and modernism influenced by the era of hippies and black punks.
PHOTOGRAPHY: TSHEPO ‘BEANZ’ MONYAMANE, MAPUSHA DA BLAQ-MOSS
What do you love the most about Pretoria? I came to Pretoria in 2010 to study for a BPharm. I enjoyed travelling to Joburg because of its diverse street culture, cool hangout spots and unique people. That inspired me to try and bring something new in terms of style to Pretoria. In a few years I’ve seen it start to change – we now have fashion rebels and designers who are going all out to prove their style is original and unique. One thing I love the most about this city is the different vintage, classic buildings especially around Church Square. It’s like the London of South Africa.
16
Favourite places to hang out? Market at The Sheds in Pretoria CBD; U-The Space Art Hub in Sunnyside and Maboneng/Arts on Main in Joburg. Who inspires you? Freelance stylist, blogger and photographer Trevor Stuurman ( stuurmanstylediary.tumblr.com); a duo of creatives called Art Comes First (Instagram @artcomesfirst); Pretoria-based photographer and stylist Tshepiso ‘Hashtah’ Motaung and everyday people I meet in the streets and my surroundings. edgars club man / autumn 2015
Who taught you how to take such great photographs? My best friend at Timeless Collective, Tshepo ‘Beanz’ Monyamane. He studied photography so, during his college projects, I used to help him as a model but I was always fascinated about how the camera works. We started doing shoots together at events; when he was tired, he would give me the camera
What inspirational words do you live by? “Taking over the world, one concept at a time” by my late friend Ntwanano ‘Great Tiny’ Mphaphudi. What do you do for fun? For me, having fun is about the company around me at the time. It doesn’t matter where we are or what we are doing.
‘It’s timeless – a mixture of vintage and modernism influenced by the era of hippies and black punks’ and I’d have to figure out how to operate it. My love for the camera grew and I’m doing well though I’m not yet where I’d like to find myself. Do you have a grooming routine? A simple one: 1. Brush teeth twice a day or after every meal, Floss at least once a day, use mouthwash every day. 2. Wash and moisturise body. 3. Two to three dabs of cologne.
What are the three must-have items in your wardrobe that you can’t live without? My black rabbi hat, my denims and my dirty All Stars Chuck Taylor sneakers. Follow the style adventures of Da BlaQ-Moss and find him online dablaq-moss.tumblr.com or on Instagram @papamoshe

First Thursdays After seeing the success of cities overseas holding gallery open nights, local First Thursdays founder Gareth Pearson decided to do the same in Cape Town. The response has been huge as crowds flood the city streets on the first Thursday of each month, hopping from gallery to gallery and different art installations in between to get their culture fix. There is no set schedule or guided route; how you do it is up to you. Simply log on to first-thursdays.co. za, check out which galleries are participating and take it from there. Fuel yourself at bars and restaurants along the way and you have all the makings of a great cultural night out. Over and above the smorgasbord of galleries open on First Thursdays, we also recommend the following: • Gallery: Michael Stevenson
