PHILANTHROPY OPTIONS BEQUESTS A bequest can be in the form of a specific gift of cash or property. Bequests can be made as sums or percentages. They may be structured to provide support to specific JCHS programs or can be given without restriction to best meet future needs. Every dollar that is given to JCHS through a bequest or other testamentary gift is fully deductible for federal estate tax purposes. CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS A Charitable Remainder Trust is a special irrevocable trust created from a donated amount that is held in trust and set up to pay income back to the donor and/or to family members during the term of the trust. At the end of the term or upon death of the donor, the assets remaining in the trust are distributed to charities specified by the donor. GIFTS OF REAL PROPERTY Donors may contribute land, buildings, leases, or other items of value. This option may enable John Carroll to acquire much needed property to expand its boundaries or may serve as an investment for the school. GIFTS OF CASH Gifts of cash, check, and by credit card are always welcome, offering John Carroll immediate financial support and allowing a tax deduction to the extent permitted by current tax laws. GIFT MATCHING PROGRAMS Many corporations have gift matching programs and will match their employees’ contributions to nonprofit organizations. GIFTS IN KIND Contributions of products, merchandise, equipment, or services can provide support for the school. If you or your company would be able to provide a service, please contact the school.

GIFT OF SECURITIES Contributions of mutual funds, publicly traded stocks, and bonds may enable donors to contribute a larger gift at a lesser cost. Transferring gifts of securities to John Carroll is easy and, if timed and planned carefully, can provide significant tax benefits. You will avoid paying the capital gains tax on the appreciation and will qualify for an income tax charitable deduction based on the fair market value of your securities on the date of the gift. LIFE INSURANCE Consider making John Carroll a beneficiary or partial beneficiary of your life insurance policy. You may also transfer ownership of a paid up policy that your family no longer needs.
2012-2013 HIGHLIGHTS ACADEMICS A total of 16 Advanced Placement classes were offered at JCHS, with numerous students earning AP Scholar Awards, in addition to excelling in Dual Enrollment and honors level classes. The JCHS SAT, PSAT, and ACT scores continued to be higher than the local, state, and national averages, with the majority of graduates earning Bright Futures and thousands of dollars being earned in college scholarships, as all students continue to obtain degrees. Smaller class sizes also allowed numerous hands-on curriculum lessons including creating a hydroponic garden, dissecting numerous specimens, creating and launching rockets, and having live birds, fish, a tortoise, and a shark in class.
MEMORIAL GIFTS Memorial gifts offer an opportunity to remember a special family member, leader in the community, influential role model, or someone special in your life. The memorial gift can be made in any amount to honor a special someone who has passed away. PERSONALIZED SCHOLARSHIP Local businesses or individuals have the opportunity to create the criteria for scholarships, provide the funding, and select the recipient. The scholarship can be named after the business or individual if so desired. SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM Change a student’s life by sponsoring a specific need. ARTS JCHS students enjoyed success through its art department with recognition county-wide, in addition to earning numerous International Thespian Society awards, including District Champions. The band program continues to grow, and several musicians earned Florida Bandmasters Association recognitions this year.
TECHNOLOGY Thanks to numerous generous donors, John Carroll will be the only school in the area to give every student and teacher an iPad 4 to use as a teaching tool. Each classroom will also feature a 60” flat screen TV, which will allow students to show work from their iPad on the screen.

EXTRACURRICULAR Twenty-three clubs are offered on campus, from Ping Pong to Multicultural Club, with nearly every student being involved in at least one extracurricular activity. Enriched programs were also hosted on campus including an AT&T driving simulator, Christian concerts, visits from area business leaders, workouts with the SWAT team and Coast Guard, plus field trips to Tennessee, Florida Keys, Washington DC, and elsewhere. An increase in school spirit was evident with new activities including Dancing with the Rams, a dodge ball tournament, pep rallies, plus fun at Homecoming, Spirit Week, Prom, etc.

ALUMNI A formal Alumni Association was recently established, which will offer monthly networking breakfasts, an inclusive reunion party in the summer, an alumni business directory, and special events at homecoming. All JCHS graduates are automatically members of the association, including the class of 2013, which has graduates attending colleges and universities throughout the US, including numerous Ivy League schools.
ATHLETICS The 22 Golden Rams athletic teams excelled this year! Nearly every sport was nominated for the FHSAA Academic Team Championship Program, with District Champions in softball, volleyball, boys’ track, and baseball, in addition to numerous individual Regional participants, District winners, and State competitors. This year the weight room was renovated, the track was refurbished, on-campus batting cages were added, students utilized the new speed-track system, and 12 seniors signed to play sports in college.

Prayer in an integral part of students’ lives inside and outside the classroom.
Spiritual development continues to be at the heart of the school’s foundation. JCHS continues to promote and teach the Catholic faith and spiritual values, while welcoming students from other faith traditions. To help students become closer to God and develop their faith, a wide-range of religion classes as well as liturgical and spiritual experiences are offered including masses, prayer and penance services, confession, class retreats, and daily prayer. Students perform a minimum of 25 service hours annually, Students contribute hundreds of service hours to help the community every year, including donated supporting local food banks, shelters, parishes, and numerous food to local charities. non-profit organizations, including a continued partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Students created a Random Acts of Kindness Week, with some receiving state and national recognition for their philanthropy. As a school, JCHS received the Chamber of Commerce Business and Industry Appreciation Award; hosted a successful gala, golf tournament, fishing tournament, Project Graduation, and had a record-breaking year in donations to the Annual Giving Campaign.
