key findings from research: • Solar power banks can benefit those who are traveling or affected by emergencies, especially in rural areas. • At night or cloudy days, they face low efficiency. They also face competition from existing electrically charged power banks. • Wireless charging is quickly growing in popularity for its efficiency, cost, and safety advantages. It is also one of Apple’s most recent innovations. • According to the CXOs of leading companies, increasing power consumption of gadgets and plummeting cost of power banks are the key drivers of the market (Allied Market Research).

“Most consumers don’t know the power and impact of solar energy.”

“The biggest problem with consumers purchasing these is the lack of understanding in power capacity.”

“My power bank died way before I can reach any type of usb charger.”

the “a-ha” moments:

logical leap: combining knowledge

“In general, the market for aftermarket batteries has not been great, because until now, for the most part, battery life has been getting a little bit better” (NY Times).

Solar energy science is too complex for consumers and do not help them to overcome the knowledge gap about its benefits.

reversing the problem: a-ha moments

+

What if a power bank was not the end product?

+

Recycling programs are among the most common and action consumers take toward greener futures.

=

If a power bank was not the end product, a brand loyalty program can create competitive advantage and a new market.

=

If the end product were recycled material, then consumers would know their investing in more than personal solar or electrical power.

“never run out of power again.”

what is the solution? • Create a standard/ solar power bank hybrid with wireless capabilities that can be used both inside and outside to reach an audience from travellers to office workers. • Create value through multiple network, product performance, channel, and brand innovations by using recycled material to implement a new profit model.

journey & discovery behind the solution: framework (insight)

Assimilating Alfred, Frank’s husband, is very worried about their new babysitter and wants Frank to remain in contact with the babysitter. So Alfred suggests Frank gets a solar power bank.

Diverging Frank’s cell phone battery died and needs to reach his the babysitter, but there are no accessible outlets in the grocery store.

Converging Reduce Alfred’s stress by allowing him to always have a charged phone.

Accomodating A full spectrum solar cell for rapid charging would increase battery storage.

value proposition: For the multi-tasking person who often finds themself with a shortage of battery power on their portable devices, solar power banks will always have the extra, free power needed for sufficient productivity in a variety of situations. Unlike standard power banks, solar features allow users to gain power inside, outside, and on the move.

marketing funnel: from awareness to advocacy awareness

1. Consumers search for information on ways to extend battery life every day, including during travels.

consideration

2. Consumeres realize power banks fulfill option for portable power on-the-go and solve issue of unexpectedly and quickly drained batteries.

trial

3. Consumers purchase the solar power bank and successfully charge the bank through an interior light source, interior window, direct light, and electrical power.

attitude loyalty

4. Consumers are able to purchase mutiple devices multiple times and overcome challenges without worrying about losing battery life at the wrong time or place.

5. Consumers are able to contribute to a more efficient and sustainable environment and lifestyle by recycling their old product and upgrading it annually.

design prototype: • Wireless charging pads use electromagnetic fields in one device to induce an electric current in a metal coil inside another device. Consumers can park their devices on a wireless charger instead of scrabbling around for cables. • The back side has solar panels to collect power from the sun and other light sources and converts into electricity. These use photons, or particles of light, to knock electrons free from atoms, generating a flow of electricity. • Included is a surface plate that creates a suction to cling to a glass window and gets solar powered. Its nano-suction technology uses vacuum, negative fluid pressure, and millions of nano-sized suction cups to securely adhere to flat nonporous surfaces.

roll-out and launch: • Apple will stage an entire event around its launch, going so far as to even close their online store, so that everyone knows something important is happening and they need to pay attention. • Apple is known to serve tidbits of info to the press to keep them hooked on what’s about to come. The event will focus more on offering a better experience with the product.
