All the love we keep believing Keeps us planted in the ground We don’t run and we don’t follow We keep the planet spinning round Glow the light that’s deep within you Light the way as you ascend Never take your light for granted You never know what’s around the bend

Johndavid Bartlett Texas’ music-making scene is a tangle of unlikely fusions, infusions and confusions. The popular idiom of Western swing arose from a spontaneous merger of Czech-German-Mexican polkas with Irish fiddling and deep-Southern blues. Boogie-woogie piano owes more to the rumble of East Texas’ logging-camp trains than to any melodic influences. Billy Briggs, the great maverick honky-tonk entertainer of the 1950s, enriched his steel-guitar style in after-hours jam sessions with the rule-busting saxophonist Ornette Coleman, while both were en route to national breakouts. The state’s influence upon rock ’n’ roll is just as impressively tangled. One of the finer such artists, Fort Worth native Johndavid Bartlett, has long endured as a near-mythological figure – “a legendary lost voice,” as essayist Paul Drummond states the case in the liner notes for Bartlett’s album, “Falling through the Universe “. Bartlett had signed at 17 with the Houston-based International Artists label, which emerged as a driving force in the psychedelic-rock movement – with such acts as Red Krayola and Roky Erickson & the 13th Floor Elevators – well before the eruption of similar scenes from San Francisco and Los Angeles. The objective was a nervy exploration of electronic note-bending possibilities and dream-logic songwriting. The Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia acknowledged International Artists as a wellhead of inspiration. Johndavid Bartlett veered closer to what the mainstream press characterized as folk-rock, for want of a more perceptive term. He was as keen as his more noisily electrified contemporaries upon upsetting the musical Status Quo, but his work was more poetically and melodically conceived, with a naturalbluesman attitude absorbed from his experiences as an assistant to the singer-guitarist Lightnin’ Sam Hopkins. International Artists collapsed just as Bartlett was preparing a breakout album. He rechanneled the momentum over the long term into endeavors as a restaurateur, an oil-and-gas entrepreneur, and a theatrical producer – he helped to establish the groundbreaking Caravan of Dreams in downtown Fort Worth – with an abiding, underlying devotion to the music. While involved with Caravan during the 1980s, Bartlett helped to develop new recordings by Ornette Coleman and Ronald Shannon Jackson. Bartlett’s voice suggests a gruffer Tim Buckley (a leading light of Greenwich Village’s folk-into-rock scene, prematurely deceased) or a smoother Tom Waits. Bartlett’s original lyrics are evocative and soulful, and his interpretations of other artists’ material are rich and transformative. Falling through the Universe is a collection to cherish – at once a delayed dispatch from a vital period in Texas’ musical history and a forward-thinking discovery, as provocative in the here-and-now as it must have sounded when fresh out of the studio. Perhaps more so. Michael H. Price

Lupe DeLearyum Lupe was born in Vera Cruz the day John Lennon died, December 8, 1980. His father was a mysterious Frenchman, who was rumored to be an ancient seaman stranded in Vera Cruz, waiting for his ship to return. His mother was a singer in the band. As a child, he used to entertain his parents with his recreations of the sounds the sea makes at night. Then, while hiking as a teenager in the Yucatan near Uxmal, he came upon the overgrown ruins of a Mayan pyramid. He decided to climb to the top and when he reached the summit, he looked out over the top of the jungle towards the sea. And then he heard a low deep humming sound. It seemed to be coming from a hole that opened to the platform just at the Eastern edge. As he approached the hole, the sound grew louder. Lupe knew he had to find out what was making the sound and so, he climbed down the hole into a large room near the base of the pyramid. The sound was now everywhere in the room and not only low and deep but high and sweet. He shined his flashlight around the room until the light found a dais against the wall and on that dais was an 8 track tape, a glowing crystal 8 track tape. It is this 8 track tape that never ends that Lupe uses to make his classy compositions today. The sounds from the 8 track tape that never ends are recorded directly from a 1966 Thunderbird and then digitally layered until the desired effect is achieved. Lupe currently lives in the Texas Hill Country.

Frederick Word Mitchim is the reincarnation of Kai, an Atlantean musician who first played the 12 tones of Ascension. The Archangel Metatron through his earthly conduit, Tyberonn, has confirmed this. When the 12 Tones of Ascension are played, the Crystals are activated and all ascend.

“This Ship arrives from so far away it’s crazy.

“This amazing music is utterly astounding. Simply this is the best meditative compilation of tones and frequencies I have ever heard. I use it for channel as well as ‘IntraTravel’. This Ship Music by Johndavid Bartlett & Lupe DeLearyum Lyrics by Fred Mitchim & Johndavid Bartlett

A ship with soulful sails drifts drifts right through here Everyone sees it and hears the sound it makes This ship will sail through and over all the clouds it's presence and it's passing makes the same sound as when the World dreams this ship arrives from so far away it's crazy The anthem of this vessel sings and sounds the same as when the World dreams “I’ve Just Seen a Face” was playing on the radio © Singing Hearts Arts 2013

TALKIN TO YOU lyric by Fred Mitchim music by Johndavid Bartlett

Wasn't that you leaving in a hurry You and your bag kinda blurry I'm not sure you know and I hope it's alright You are the ghost everyone saw last night With the floodlights on you your image is clear Your bags were full and there's nothing here People shout It was here in plain sight You are the ghost everyone saw last night You dreamed it was okay the crowd you'd get lost in You would be gone your chips would be tossed in You'd be a ghost instead look where you landed You're solid gold sub-titled red handed Š Singing Hearts Arts 2013

Our Own Tracks lyric and guitar by Fred Mitchim music and vocals by Johndavid Bartlett

As though it happens every night right on time I will walk with you from here to the ocean The others will see our tracks and know where we have gone it is said there are strange new boats in the harbor handmade violins hang on the wall at the local joint amidst the smoke and stories a 16 year old cat is sleeping... a flashbulb would frame eternity as it changes into nothing... we stand at the ocean and the salty air is pleasing someone with a flashlight pretends to be a lighthouse these boats no one has ever seen silently rock under the stars an old violin makes it's way down the pier and answers any calls some unrecognizable faces are visible on the whispering boats we return from the shore... our own tracks will guide us Š Singing Hearts Arts 2013

Over my head in muddy water trying to get to shore a heavy rain is coming down like it never has before It's coming down got to get some shelter It's coming down won't let us get away It's coming down gonna have to run It's coming down It's coming down today Wash away All my shame and pity Wash away My jealousy and fear Wash away this hard life that I’m living Wash it all away Till the water starts to clear Š Singing Hearts Arts 2013

Living On Lyrics by Tommy Hall / music by Roky Erickson

If you see me rockin’, It’s that the times are right I’m bringing in my stocking, If the score gets tight I may drop in and plant smokestacks Clean living leaves no tracks What’s ugly’s wrong and we’re just living on I hear you talking, you’re only poppin’ spit Automatic walking thru the sniper pit The dingy he just circles insane and take the lord’s name in vain Vetted kings of all are living off not living on Living on past the ice age and the walrus harpoons Living on past the space age and the yellow balloons In the age of the exit comes the moving cartoons Bringing you right along Helping you living on If you miss my special, I’m out alone Be sure to keep a level, I’m talking on my on Don’t be taken by what I say If it’s too rigid through it away But you’re never really gone you’re just living on If you miss my watching, sometimes I’m catchin’ all I can In the steady watching of the profit’s plan whoa, and the good life we live may fortell will keep us our souls very well and the wisdom of right ever long and the spirit us is living on © Singing Hearts Arts 2013

We Dance / We Shine Lyrics by Fred Mitchim, Albert Einstien and Johndavid Bartlett Music by Johndavid Bartlett

“We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, we create the dreams.” Albert Einstein

Down to the sound ground Deep hold the heart full Dive like a Dharma Bum Hear resolution I am ready lay it on me You always tell me things that haunt me Although your sources should be question I don’t want the impact lessened Tell me everything Cause there’s no time like now So let it all spill out We’re in this together and that is how we shine As before I will listen And if there’s anything I’m missing Walk me through again slower And anything else you’ll go for Take me everywhere Cause there’s no time like nowSo let it all spill out We’re together and that is how we shine This is our most prized possession Our thoughts combined go unquestioned With this secret now uncovered The next one to be discovered Will change everthing There’s no time like now We’re together and that is how we shine This is how, this is how, this is how we dance and shine. © Singing Hearts Arts 2013

Get That Way Words and music by Johndavid Bartlett

All the love we keep believing Keeps us planted in the ground We don’t run and we don’t follow We keep the planet spinning round Glow the light that’s deep within you Light the way as you ascend Never take your light for granted You never know what’s around the bend People going crazy and I don’t know why If you take it from the river then the river runs dry You got to get a handle on the spinning sky Man invented time and I don’t know why So much love in the hands of Man There’s so much Love still in the hands of Man So much love, so much love, so much love in the hands of Man Give it up, give it up, give it up, give it up Wild, wild world how’d you get that way How’d you get that way Om © Singing Hearts Arts 2013

WATER FROM THE WELL Music & Lyrics by Johndavid Bartlett & Fred Mitchim

There is no truth to the rumor I’ve been found I know what this looks like and how it sounds Let’s assume for a moment this is me And both of us know why we’re here We get our water from the well Saints and beggers all stand in line Waiting to board the train one last time Leaves at midnight arrives at dawn If you want to get home make sure you get on We get our water from the well The faintest glimmer of the moon through the clouds Draws all eyes upward they sing aloud We come together and go together We wait here all night long We get our water from the well © Singing Hearts Arts 2013
