A

nderson Will Jones affectionately known as “Dub”, “A.W.” and “Jones” was born in Emerson, Arkansas, Doss Town Community on October 3, 1934. He was the third oldest of 15 children born to Jessie and Artie Jones. He finished school at McMittress High School in Emerson, Arkansas. After finishing high school, he came to Houston and found a job at the Greyhound Bus Station, as a “red cap”. There he was known as “young blood ”because he was the youngest of the Red Caps during that time. Anderson was blessed to have found the love of his life, Edwardleen Jones at the bus station, as she was waiting on her mother to arrive. They were united in holy matrimony a few years later in 1955. To this union three children were born. Anderson willingly joined the Air Force, where he served his country for 4 years. He served as a fire truck driver until his discharge. After his honorable discharge in 1960, he resumed his job at Greyhound Bus station, where he was promoted as a ticket agent until he retired after 38 years. After his retirement, he worked for a delivery company and Enterprise Car Rental as a driver. Anderson joined the New Mt. Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor H.R. Berry, in 2004 and was ordained as a deacon in 2008. He enjoyed being in the Men’s Ministry, being a part of the Male Chorus, sometimes working in the food pantry, and a Sunday School teacher for one of the men’s classes. He always believed in being on time which was his motto. He also enjoyed attending the J.W. Peavy Senior Center. Anderson departed this life on January 7, 2018 at 6:35 a.m. at M.D. Anderson Hospital after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Artie Bell Jones, four brothers twins Evan, Avan, Edward and R. L. Jones, one sister Mildred Collins, and a two-week-old son Anthony Keith Jones. He leaves beautiful memories with his wife Edwardleen Jones of 62 years, daughter Orlesia Jones, son Darrell Q. Jones, grandson Derrick Jones, granddaughter Shalayna (Chase) Williams, Shameika (Quincy) Williams, and a great-grandson, Derrick Quentin Jones. In addition he leaves four sisters, Thelma Evans, Mae (Jack) Broomfield, Eula B. Do Not Cry For Me Do not cry for me when I must go, for heaven waits for me. I got here fine and oh it is grand, there is so much here to see. The Father met me at the gate while you watched me wilt and die. You could not see but all around you were angels by your side.

They told me when I go, they would care for you. With my body in such pain it was all that I could do. I told you before I left I didn’t want to die, but I have never been so happy. Don’t see it as goodbye.

I have no more pain and the love here is great. I got a brand new body when I walked through the gate. So do not weep anymore for God is holding my hand, and when you close your eyes to die and reach the promise land. I will meet you at the gate when the Father guides you through. Until I see you once again remember “I Love You”. Colleen Laybourne–Smith
