The Chequers at Slaugham The North Sussex CAMRA Branch Pub of the Month for February 2017 is The Chequers at Slaugham. Just before Christmas 2016, the management of The Chequers was taken over by Wallman Pubs on a one year lease. Rick Windell is behind the bar and looking to turn around the fortunes of this picturesque country pub set in the hamlet of Slaugham. Rick is keen to stock ale from local brewers and already has two offerings from Kissingate, namely Old and Storyteller. He is also stocking bottles from Lister and is looking at other local breweries such as Dark Star. The pub is very spacious with an open fire in the main bar area, a dining area that also doubles as a function room, and a large beer garden looking out over the surrounding countryside. Good food is top of the list, with Steak Night on Monday, Fish on Friday, and Sunday lunch taking pride of place. As well as a enticing three course menu, there are a range of sandwiches on offer. The Chequers is open daily from 12 to 11. Rick is looking at putting on music and possible an Open Mic night. A welcome addition to the branch and well worth checking out.
