The North Sussex CAMRA Branch Pub of the Month for March 2017 is The Jolly Tanners at Staplefield.

The Jolly Tanners is a perennial favourite with lovers of good food, good ale and good music. Chris and Sigrun work hard to provide an environment that delivers everything a Local Pub should.

Events include an Open Mic night every Tuesday as well as regular music on Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon. In addition there are beers festivals, theme nights, and charity events, not to mention the Old Crocks race which passes the doorstep in November.

The food is a key part of the package at the JT, with daily specials and roasts on Sundays. The daily menu includes lunchtime sandwiches as well as pub classics.

On the ale front, Chris is a bit of a “beer hunter” and there is an ever changing range of dark and light ales served from more than six pumps, often with extra casks server direct from the bar or the cellar. He also sells real ciders. There are two beer festivals centred around the May and August bank holidays.

The pub has appeared in the Good Beer Guide on numerous occasions, including the last 4 years since 2014. It was also the North Sussex CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2002, 2006, 2011 and 2014.

Chris is a supporter of CAMRA and is always keen to assist with branch initiatives when he can. I thoroughly recommend you drop by and say hello, you will definitely find it worth the trip.
