The North Sussex CAMRA Branch Pub of the Month for May 2017 is The White Horse in Maplehurst. Based in the heart of Maplehurst village in West Sussex, The White Horse offers open fires in the winter and a large garden with beautiful countryside views in the summer. The pub has been run by Beth and Simon Johnson since 1982 and is a freehouse which regularly serves up to 5 real ales, from around the South-East, as well as the local JB Cider. The quality of their beers and their warm welcome has kept them in the Good Beer Guide for 30 years. The menu is based around classic pub grub and includes Beth’s homemade chilli, made from a secret family recipe, which is renown in the area. There is no need to book a table to come and eat with us unless you are in a large group. Children and dogs are welcome. The pub regularly hosts events including the annual Maplehurst Village Day, the local farmers market, the annual onion competition and frequent visits from local Morris troupes. All these are publicised on their Facebook page. During the summer you can book a BBQs for parties, with burgers and sausages supplied by a local butcher, grilled to perfection by Simon. A marquee is provided just in case the British weather isn't at its best.
