PROFILE For now it’s just me. I started to visualize things, when building castles and forts along the beaches. Being from Tanjore & awestruck by the might of the grand temples , the grandeur of the past ,the works of our ancestors. Awestruck ! It makes me wonder. How much we have lost.

I have a Passion and I will do the best of my interests, and a strong desire to work in site and see the project shaper up.

‘Do it with passion or not at all’

photographs

Had I not been an architect, I would have ended up being a photographer. I took cues from my brother, who is also an avid photographer. Before It turned out to be my alltime passion. I feel it adds value to my profession, improving my sense of composition framing and keen eye for detail. I see film as a canvas to express myself.

Rather than just a click of the shutter, I find it as a canvas to paint my ideas, portray my mood and emotion. The play of lights, the rhythm and the framing are something that I learnt in photography which could could be carried further for my future prospects.

My passion for photography turned me into an avid traveller. One among the best is my trip to Ladhak. Where every frame is picture perfect. I got to see nature as an artist. The subtle monochrome mountais - the cold dessert which were painted with the strokes of yellowis chrome pastures. And the dark red monastries that dot

these valleys. They were the speck of sentoor on the mother earth (like women’s forehead). And the dark undulating mountains that present themselves as a backdrop to the ever beautiful pangong tso (lake). The mistry of the lake with it myriad colours, made me feel as if i was at once in heaven. The photographs and the travel expedition makes me connect myself with the precinct and aid me in my creative self. I would love to go on long back packing trips, taking the local routed treaded by the localites. Stay in the regional inns and possible homestays. Eat in the smallest yet most crowded eateries. And to learn the culture and traditions of different sections of the society. Being in India, the land of diversities, I find the potential in exposing myself to different cultures which inturn fire my thirst to be at my creative best.

Being a computer geek, I had a long lasting love for photoshop. I used to edit my own photographs and thats how I got into poster designing. Later on I started editing posters for short films and other independent music albums. I have learnt framing and usage of colours acorss the design during the process.

Sketching and doodling were always my passtime even before my academic career. I would just take out my black ball pen and sketch or doodle whatever that comes to my mind. I find it as the best way to express ourselves. This later developed under able guidances of eminent artists that made me put forth my conceptual ideas into sketches. For me, every concept or the idea starts with a sketch. The series of sketches define my design progress and evolution.

It all started with my addiction of the magnum opus novel ‘ponniyin selvan’ by Kalki. Eventhough I’ve read it just once, I used to just flip the pages over again and again only to see the old drawings of Artist Maniyan. Those old drawings were the precursor to my diring interest in sketches and paintings. I have an unquenched thirst to learn many different forms of painting. I also took cues from Leonardo da Vinci and Michael Angelo who are multifaceted and records their ideas in the form of a sketches and paintings in their diaries. They were not only artists but also sculptors, architects, engineers, poets, etc.

The Design School is located in Thiruvannamalai. It is in close proximity to the Thiruvannamalai hill and the lake. The prime challenge of the site is to effectively combat the adhverse climate of the region which is predominantly hot and dry. This is done by studying how the settlements have evlved over a period of time and through the usage of vernacular materials. LOCATION

The nearby settlements adapt to the heat through various passive solar strategies like wind tunneling(kuthu), stack effect in courtyard (muttram) and the shaded pavilion in the porch (thinnai). These strategies were incorporated in the design itself and also through the aplication of vernacular materials like Rammed Earth, rustic stone, etc.

Internship

I did my internship under Ar. Shaliny V.B. Saksena in Goa. The reason for choosing Goa is to learn how to incorporate vernacular materials and traditional elements in Contemporary architecture, as is common the region. Under the able guidance of the Architect, I was a part of diverse projects from a luxurious villa to a huge market, having client meetings from a common man to the GSIDC. architect

It is a project of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), with the consultation of Ar. Shaliny V.B. Saksena. I joined the project at a stage when schematic drawings are about to main : sectional view - rendered in Revit and freeze. I aided with the schematic 3Dvisualization of the project. Later background effects in Photoshop, helped with the Working Drawings as well as the Bill of Quantities (BOQ). rignt top : interior view of dining - rendered in Revit, center : front view - modelled in Revit, rendered in Lumion bottom : front view - modelled in Revit, rendered in Lumion

My Role in the project is to handle the 3D Visualization solely. My addition in the design process of the building to design the truss in the porch. Lateron I helped in the Site Plan, Drainage Layout, Elecrical and Plumbing drawings, etc. I have learnt to do BOQs, only from this project.

majorda villa

This villa is located in Majorda, Goa. The site sits in the edge of the settlement zone and the whole length faces the fields on the other side. On the other side there is a nullah (storm water drain). The prime challange of the site is that the site is too narrow but long. I did the 3D visualization of the project by incorporate Revit during the process. The concept is to blend the building with its surrounding landscape and to make all the spaces overlook the field. Materials are vernacular and are locally sourced.

My Role in the project is to handle the 3D Visualization. Since, I’ve done the client presentation documents, I would be a part of most of the client meetings. This not only improvised my presentation skills, but also that I got to learn alot from these encounters. The Architect had a diversified clientale from a common man to the GSIDC, this helped he process.

cottage module

The cottage is located in the pilgrim town of Vailankanni in Nagapattinam Dist., Tamil Nadu. This is a LIVE proposal for a client. who wanted a cottage to be built in his 1.35 acre farm site. The site to be later developed into a pilgrim resort. The cottage module has a wide corridor in the front and is flanked by shaded decks along the sides to control the heat penetraton without affecting the airflow. This space also acts as a place to cater to the other pilgrims who dont have shelter as is common with the tamil tradition to accomodate strangers in the house thinnai. The module comprises of a bed room, hall, kitchenette and a common toilet. The roofing is done with elephant grass for thermal insulation.

The plinth is made of Laterite blocks sourced from the nearby Vallam plateau.

These are some of my freelance 3D works. WAREHOUSE: A warehouse project that I received from freelancer.com. I was roped in to do a 3D realistic 3D render of a warehouse. I was provided with the schematic drawings. The challange was to make it look realistic. I happen to learn alot about HDRI maps during the project. Like the reflection of the global lighting on the subject and how it makes it achieve photorealism. I’ve used Sketchup for modelling and VRAY for rendering the scene. The beauty of St. George’s Cathedral is not alone in its tall spire and unparalleled pillars but also in its high class statues, mural tablets and memorials inside. The Cathedral is certainly a massive and majestic piece of architectural grandeur resting on an elegant tier of steps. The decorative memorials and articles inside are history in stone. The Cathedral is flanked by a Neo Classical Portico with a collonade. The coloumns are of Ionic order with the entablature and architrave on top. The triangular entablature has raking cornice, freeze and moldings. The porch leads us to a narrow Narthex, which has recess on both the sides aswell as magnificient statues. Entering the grand nave from the narrow narthex creates a sense of suspense and drama. The Nave is flanked by Aisles on both the sides. It is also adorned by a collonade of Ionic order coloumns in a taller base. The Cathedral seems to follow the Latin cross plan with the longer Nave. But the transept is almost nonexistent except for the projectinf Porches on both the sides and the grand stairs. The Choir and the Sanctuary are at the apsidal end. Whereas the Parish Priest room and the Stairs are the sides of the Narthex.

The process of documentation involved, making a rough sketch of the Cathedral. Then the measurements are taked and are marked. The heights are marked in the section sketches. They are measured with the help of precision laser instruments. The elevational measurements are taken with the help of taking high resolution photographs. They are then scaled to the known reference points. Since the access to the Spire is restricted, they were drafted using the elevation drawing as well as by referring old documents and books on Neo Classical Cathedrals. The whole work were done using the XREF system in AutoCAD. They were worked up on bits which are later combined with XREF. The drawing is then used in Sketchup to create a 3D model of the Cathedral.
