The 1976 Centenary Appeal

In 1971 the School launched its first ever appeal, the Centenary Rebuilding Appeal, to the community of Parents, Old Lyonians, Governors, Staff and friends of the School to raise money for urgent improvements. Through generous donations from over 800 donors they were able to reach their target of £106,000 by 1974 and complete all the work required - create a new gymnasium hall, library and reconstruct the main building. What a fantastic celebration of 100 years of the School’s history. The Lyonian Magazine 1971

We Need Our Community’s Support Again We are lucky to have such a rich culture and history of charitable giving dating back to our foundation in 1876 and we ask all parents to consider maintaining that tradition by joining others in supporting the School. You can either help to enhance the experience of pupils at John Lyon via the 1876 Fund or help assist pupils who could not otherwise afford a John Lyon education via the Bursary Fund. The 1876 Fund supports one-off projects with an immediate and direct impact on our pupils’ education. The current target is to raise £50,000 to purchase a purpose-built cricket net facility at Sudbury, to provide a dedicated training area for both squads and individuals to practice. We require the help of our community to make this a reality, every gift makes a difference. Our Bursary Fund goal is bold, to double our existing provision! We have made some progress but still have quite a journey to go. Thank you to those who already support John Lyon either by giving regularly to the 1876 Fund or to the Bursary Fund, your support is greatly appreciated. EVERY GIFT WILL HELP ENRICH THE LIVES OF CURRENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS OF JOHN LYON PUPILS.

A BIG THANK YOU!

Digital Wyvern Organ It was so wonderful to have David Reeves (OL 1956) visit the School for a reunion marking 70 years since joining the School. The reunion group had the opportunity to hear the digital Wyvern Organ (donated by David) played in the Boyd Campbell Hall by Huw Jones accompanying the Pride of Lyon’s choir. “It’s in my later years I came to realise how lucky I was to come to John Lyon. I am very fond of the School and delighted you have found a use for the organ.” – David Reeves.

Leaving Gift Football Corner Flags A generous donation from a leaving parent this year towards the 1876 Fund will enable us to sponsor the purchase of new corner flags for the football pitches at Sudbury. The flags will be embroidered with the School logo. Thank you very much!

Second Hand Uniform Sale Thank you to the following parents; Nicky Sandhu, Michelle Beresford-Smart, Kim Kelleher-Garcia, Cecil and Yvonne Bennett, Karina Khilnani, Natalie Fairclough and Samina Bashir who generously offered their time. A big thank you to all the parents who donated uniform, without which there would have been no sale. We managed to raise a total of £875.73 which will contribute to the 1876 Fund sponsoring the upcoming TEDx talk to be held at the School in October by offering pupils professional coaching on public speaking and delivering high quality speeches.
