Eddie Yome Director Of Football
Dear All Welcome to this Rock Cup semi final between Europa and Gibraltar Phoenix. Europa is heading into a future of Football Excellence by setting up a series of initiatives for our youth under the direction of professional football coaches. This is the first time I believe that a Gibraltar football club will be embarking in such an Ambitious venture with a view of investing in our young footballers. We will start with our Europa family but hopefully extending to other clubs in the future. Europa fc doors are always open to welcome new additions to our family so if you think you would benefit from such a scheme please approach any Europa member to support your application.
We have teams for all categories so any child in any age group will be welcome. The club will also hold a other initiatives for coaches so again if you’re interested sign up. You will find information in the near future within this booklet for you to follow this up. Many thanks Eddie Yome QPM CPM Director of Football Europa FC

HEAD COACH RAFAEL ESCOBAR Rafa firstly congratulations on the Manager Of The Month award By Football Gibraltar for the Month of March, would you think your work would be recognized so soon? For me it’s an honor to be named Manager of the month with not even two months at the job. It has surprised me that my work has been recognized so soon when you come to a league and you think nobody knows you. This is the the reward of doing the job well with the team in organizing the team defensively and offensively, also the players doing their job in working hard to get the results makes it a lot easier for all of us. One of your players Alex Quillo has also been named player of the month for March, what does that mean to you? It’s an honor as well for one of my players to be recognized in the work he is doing. It shows he is working well together with all the players in the team and without the work of the team neither him or me would get recognized. For me both being recognized is a job well done by all the team. Today the semi final of the cup against Phoenix, do you expect another hard game as the one in the league? Yes I expect a similar type of game, it’s a different competition and the Cup is always very attractive, especially a semi final, only a step away from a Cup Final. To play a Cup Final is always a big incentive for any team and I am sure they would want to be in that Cup Final as much as we do. I have a lot of respect for Phoenix as with any other team and I am sure they will make it difficult for us during the whole 90 minutes. We are well prepared and looking forward to the game. How do you see the team mentally after winning against them 3-0 less than two weeks ago?
The team is prepared mentally and we have to respect them as they made things difficult for us in that league game. We the same as them have the motivation that winning this game will play in the Cup Final, that should be enough to all players to be focused. We have to continue in playing the games as we have had in the last few games to achieve our objectives.

Today’s Opponents Phoenix FC Gibraltar Phoenix was first founded in 2011 by Club President Nicholas Gaiviso and was officially registered as a Gibraltar Football Associated member in 2012. The club is made up of individuals who are passionate about football and about playing in a team. This allows the team to pursue their passion for football, but also help with their widely recognised skills such as teamwork. The clubs aim is to not only be successful and compete at the highest level, but to also enjoy their football and create relationships with the fans, players and coaching staff. They have, however, the distinction of having competed in their domestic league while failing to score a single draw, never mind a single victory, during a league season. During the 2013–2014 Phoenix were relegated from the Premier Division and so started 2014–2015 in the Second Division. They finished this season in 4th place 14 points behind the 2nd-place finish which would have secured them promotion back to the top flight at the first attempt. After a rebrand, Gibraltar Phoenix finished 3rd in the Second Division during the 2015–2016 season one place and six points behind Mons Calpe in second place who were promoted via the playoff and Europa Point who topped the division a further 3 points ahead. The side lost their first two games of the 2016–17 season due to forfeits on account of the new Home Grown Player rule in effect in Gibraltar. Their first game, a 4-1 victory against Hound Dogs, was overturned in Hound Dogs' favour while their second game, against title rivals Bruno's Magpies, was awarded to Magpies without the match taking place. After filling their quota for domestic players, Phoenix saw a turnaround in form which included a club record 20-1 defeat of Angels, sitting joint-top of the Second Division at the turn of the year. Phoenix secured the title on the penultimate week of the season after an 11-0 victory over College 1975, returning to the top flight after a 3-year absence. They finally achieved their first ever top flight points on the opening fixture of the season, in a 2-1 win over Mons Calpe. Source Wilkepedia

SPOT ON Alex Quillo Europa FC Congratulations on your recognition by Football Gibraltar in naming you as player of the month for March, what does this mean to you? Thank you, it means I am working well and people value it, but without my team mates and the work of the technical team it wouldn’t have been achieved, this award is the work of all of them. Congratulations again in signing a new contract with Europa FC, this shows the club has confidence in you. Did you had in your mind you always wanted to continue with Europa FC? Yes from the start I wanted to continue at Europa FC, I have been 4 seasons now and my 1st option was always to continue. My heart was always telling me this is where I want to be. I want to carry on growing together with the club to achieve our objectives. How do you see the team since Rafa Escobar arrived? Very well, he works well with the players, knows what he wants and how to achieve it, he knows how to get the best of the players. He had a difficult start with the 1st game V Lincoln but since that game everyone has seen what he can achieve with the team. What is your personal objectives? My objectives are to win the League and Cup were today we play the semi-final, an important game for us. If we win the league try to get as far in the Champions League as we can, that are mine and also Europa’s objectives, we have to aim high. Rafa was a great choice by the club and I am sure the Club will grow in size as we are working well and under him we can achieve great things 10

Gibraltar Ladies Futsal were unlucky to finish this past weekend with two defeats. After loosing the 1st game on Saturday 3-0, they came out looking for revenge in front of a packed stadium. They were winning 2-0 in the 1st half of the 2nd game on Sunday, but two late goals by Northern Ireland near the end of the match over turned that score line. A great effort by all involved. From here we congratulate Paola, Seleen, Gabriella and Coach Gayle. 18
