The second David Simone Softball Classic was held April 18-19, 2015. David is a brother that has been suffering from T-Cell Lymphonia, a form of cancer. It was diagnosed in the fall of 2013, and David was unable to return to Carolina. There was a unanimous decision amongst the brothers that all future philanthropic efforts of the chapter should be donated directly to David and his family in order to assist them in paying the medical bills. An idea to sponsor an annual softball game to raise funds was put together in 2014. The chapter challenged the campus police, and over $22,000 was raised by the effort. Additionally, the chapter Mothers of Minerva, (mothers of the members), raised $1000 through a 2015 spring raffle that was also be contributed to David Simone’s fund. This year, the Softball game was coupled with a second event on Sunday April 19, which consisted of a highway cleanup off Bluff Road around Williams-Brice Stadium from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., followed by a cookout and bonfire with live music at the end of South Stadium Drive that commenced at 7:30. 2014 Philanthropy Chairman Jamie McClement stated that, “As a Fraternity, the brothers of SAE intend to support their fellow brother and Gamecock as much as possible by helping to defray his medical expenses. We had good weather and a great turnout, and welcomed the entire USC student body and Columbia community to come out and enjoy themselves.” For more information or to inquire about getting involved with future events please contact Jamie McClement via phone at 336-420-6239, or via email at jamesmcclement@gmail.com.

SC Delta Chapter Education Fund (CEF) Donate to our Fund! Please help us grow the SC Delta Chapter Education Fund (CEF)!. Donations can be mailed to Jason Andrick in care of the SAE Foundation, 1856 Sheridan Rd, Evanston, IL 60204. Make your check out to SAE and indicate its for the SC Delta CEF. Questions can be sent to Jason Andrick at email jandrick@sae,net or 800233-1856.

In 2001 the alumni association created the SC Delta Chapter Education Fund (CEF) with the SAE Foundation. The concept was (and still is) to honor many of our late alumni.

tax deductible under IRS laws governing 501(c)(3) organizations. All donations to a CEF are included in the donor's lifetime giving record with the Foundation.

A CEF is a fund managed and invested by the Foundation and used to benefit a chapter's undergraduate members. A CEF is established with a taxdeductible contribution, or a combined total contribution of $5,000.

The pay-out for a CEF is usually not greater than 5 percent of the fund. This is available annually for use by a chapter for projects deemed "wholly educational in nature." In this case we use if for Leadership School tuition.

To date the balance of our fund for fiscal year 2014-2015 is about $18,000. There is enough to send two delegates to the National Leadership (tuition is about $450 per person). But we want to grow this fund and send more members of the chapter to the school. Want a copy of the latest statement? Questions can be sent to John Stringfellow at email jstringman@aol.com.

House Corporation News Ever since the housing corporation was reorganized in 1999, its purpose has been to raise funds to own, build, and occupy a fraternity house at the Greek Village. USC offered the land under a long term lease for a nominal annual fee. The cost of the 10,000 sq ft house and furnishings in 2001 was about $1.2 million. The

corporation was able to raise about half that amount from alumni donors, then finance the rest. The balance of the mortgage is about $600,000. Under IRS rules, only the educational portion of a house is considered tax deductible, which can amount to about 1/3 of the footage. We have re-

cently been able to convert the outstanding loan balance to an actual mortgage loan. Credit goes to Brother Courtney Leavitt for his management and supervision of the corporation and the house. Contact him at email clgamecock@gmail.com
