GREETINGS FROM OUR PRESIDING ELDER
Rt. Rev. James Levert Davis Presiding Bishop Rev. Johnny R. Calhoun Presiding Elder
We greet you with Jesus joy and hallelujah praise! There have been many things that have occurred since our last Church School Convention that have negatively affected our country. Over 600,000 covid-19 deaths, police brutality, an insurrection on our nations capital, hate crimes, national efforts to block voter rights, depression and mental illness, isolation, closures and being quarantined. Yet through it all we have survived. We are the REAL Church and we rise to the challenge! It would be easy to allow what we had to go through to dampen our spirits or cause us to be discouraged. But we have a cloud of witnesses. Our ancestors and fore parents who have gone before us and endured many hardships. Lynchings and Jim Crow laws. Slavery and segregation. The Ku Klux Klan and racial hatr ed. They are calling out to us. Hebrews 12:1-2, says they are telling us to lay aside those things that would weight us down and the sin that could so easily impede our progress. Richard and Sarah Allen, Daniel Payne and Daniel Quinn, Henry McNeil Turner, Zarena Lee and Rosa Parks are crying out and telling us to run. Not in fear or flight, but with patience. Keeping our eyes on Christ Jesus. The Word of GOD that became flesh. Jesus endured the cross and the pain of death for the joy set before Him. For the joy that comes in the mor ning. And so we run. Looking unto the One who is life. Our Savior who came to give us abundant and eternal life. Who told us that the gates of hell would never prevail against His church. We run by faith together for life. For a saved life, to receive abundant life, to obtain eternal life and the imperishable life of our churches. Let us run and not be weary, walking together and not faint. A relay race, receiving and passing the baton of leadership to the “Baton Brigade.” We give honor to Bishop James Levert Davis and our Episcopal Supervisor Mother Arelis Davis for their guidance and leadership. Also, let me thank GOD for Sis. Francine Wilson, our Capital District Church School Superintendent and the mighty team who diligently worked to make this year’s Church School Convention a great success. Rev. Alicia Hudnall, Rev. Lauren Harris, Stacy Holmes, Rev. Lillian Moore, Rev. Vernon Ware, Rev. Collin Figueroa, Rev. Demetrius Price, Rev. Michele Langston, Josephine Davis, Dr. Birthale Archie, Duane Josey and so many others. We thank GOD for enabling us to glorify Him beyond all measure. Everybody, “Well done” Presiding Elder Johnny R. Calhoun Rev. Patricia R. Calhoun Capital District Office | P.O. Box 118 | Glen Burnie MD 21060 | capitaldistrictelder@gmail.com. | 410.320.4268

GREETINGS FROM OUR CE DIRECTOR
Greetings in the Name of our Master Teacher, Jesus Christ! Let me begin by congratulating our pioneering Presiding Elder on his second virtual Capital District Church School Convention, “We’re Running for Life” the Baton Brigade— Hebrews 12:1-3! Presiding Elder Calhoun and first lady Rev. Patricia Calhoun have set a new standard in securing the legacy and the legitimacy of the African Methodist Episcopal Church for future generations. The principles embedded in the concept of the Baton Brigade—of making sure our church is a sure and secure reality for generations to come--has laid upon our Elder’s heart for quite some time and is now manifest across the district. To God be the Glory! I would start by mentioning Sis. Francine Sutton Wilson, Capital District Church School Superintendent but I know I will miss very many names, which I don’t want to do. So, let me just the thank the Capital District Church School Convention Executive Staff, support staff, administrative and technical gurus and creative geniuses who worked together across the months to produce a quality and enriching program. I know this weekend will be superb. To all the teachers, I thank you for “not thinking it robbery” to give of yourselves and to pour into others. “Passing the Baton” begins with understanding who we are as Christians, and how the Lord has purposed us to live and prosper in His promises. Without fully comprehending that, we have little to pass to the next generation. We must understand that we are the church so that we can maintain the church. Finally, to every participant—thank you. Thank you for showing up and reaching forth for the baton and wanting to pass it on. What you gain today will not only strengthen your stride, but it will also edify those whose lives you touch. I challenge each of you to “run for life”—your life, a saved life, abundant life, eternal life, and a life that enriches someone else’s. Have a wonderful 2021 Virtual Capital District Church School Convention! “Running for Life” with you, Rev. Karen Myers Capital District Christian Education Director Washington Conference Christian Education Director

GREETINGS FROM OUR PRESIDING ELDER
Welcome to our Second Virtual and Cyber 2021 Capital District Church School Convention! I greet you with the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! I am so glad that you have chosen to join us today in this corporate worship experience, albeit remotely, as we continue to adjust our lives and our ministries to this global pandemic that has negatively affected so many in our community. Let me say that, I wish you and your families my personal best for your health and safety on the front line during this health crisis. Despite the extraordinary uncertainty of this time, we know that our God is in control. We want you to rest assured in His arms during this time with us today and enter into this virtual and cyber Church School Convention with a heart dedicated to worship our wonderful Lord and Savior! Our 2021 Church School theme is “We Are Running for Life: The Baton Brigade”. Once again, our forward and creative thinking Presiding Elder Johnny R. Calhoun, wanted our youth and young adults included in the development of the 2021 Convention, and, therefore, the Youth and Young Adult Roundtable was reconvened. The Roundtable was quite engaged in the process and thus, our theme and framework for the activities for the convention were shaped. The theme’s overall concept centers around our responsibility to create a space for our YaYa (Youth and Young Adult) in leadership in the church. We pray that this experience will bless you, restore you and enlighten you. Get ready we are all in this race and a part of the Baton Brigade! May you enjoy your virtual and cyber Church School Convention as much as we, the entire Capital District Church School Team from your churches in Maryland, Virginia and DC enjoyed preparing for you with the hope that you will leave this experience lifting others through witnessing, serving and sharing!
God Bless! Francine Wilson Capital District Superintendent
