The Carved-Out Terraces Integrated System Building Design Comprehensive Studio | Spring 2021 Instructor: Abigail Ransmeier How do we fix the problem where the Mother Earth is dying due to the human’s overusing and overdependence of technology? The answer is simple, we just need to incorporate Mother Earth’s elements into our design of architecture, such as greenery. While the answer might sound simple, it requires a comprehensive understanding of the interrelationship between building, site and nature. We need to slowly work back and deepen our knowledge for passive system again since we have forgotten and disregard it for a long time. At the same time, there also needs to be a fair understanding of the local ecosystem, because this knowledge will help the architects to implement it into the design and at the same time introducing the element of nature into a building. By incorporating all of the aforementioned elements into an architectural design, it will also is an indication of the building is an object “...that ‘grew from’ its site”. From here, it is just like what Moneo said in his Lecture, “The building itself stands alone, in complete solitude...master of itself... assume its proper condition, living its own life”.

Modular Housing Sekisui Two-U System Master’s Research Studio | Fall 2021 Instructor: Ivan Rupnik Sekisui Two-U System is an innovative fabrication system that highly utilizing the automation system in Japan. The system is very flexible; lengths ranging from 8’-11” to 17’-11with full width and half width options. By learning and understanding the scale, local space of fabrication to the global landscapes of material and labor flows, the project helps me developing product platforms - systems that balance ecology, economy and ergonomics for housing and other architectural typologies.

Housing Projects Working Experience Spring 2019 Abacus [ Architects + Planners ] Supervisor: David Eisen I spent most of my time at Abacus making massing models, diagrams for feasibility study. I also have the opportunity to developed my Revit skills, where I constructed a whole model that consisted of proper facade detail such as windows and exterior walls for the Lawrence Community Project. After that, I worked together with my colleagues on rendering the existing environment and condition of the site.

Post Road Marlborough Working Experience Spring 2020 bh+a [Bargmann Hendrie + Archetype, Inc.] Supervisor: Steve Shetler This is a two 5-story multi-family buildings set within the natural “wetland” surroundings of Marlborough. The goal here is to creat 2 distinct building types - 1 modern and 1 traditional - in order to bring diversity in leasing for the 485 (245 units in one and 240 units in the other). Each building also includes extensive amenities such as great rooms, fitness centers, yoga, etc.

The Bamboo Pavilion Bio-Plastic Material Study Options Studio | Fall 2020 Instructor: Mary Hale Due to the current pandemic, human daily interactions and curiosity has been limited to a fair degree. In addition, people have starting to become ‘dull’ due to all the limitations, such as having to wear full gear of protection (mask, glove, etc.) and be cautious of people around you. There are also safety guidelines that you need to follow such as the capacity of a space and social distancing. My concept for the project is to create a safe outdoor place that encourage people to come out and gather during the pandemic and until it ends. This outdoor place will be a unique structure that will grab people’s attention as they pass by or seeing them from afar. In addition, my structure will have both the temporary and permanent characteristics within it. The temporary characteristics are associated with the idea of cradle-to-cradle, while the permanent characteristics are associated with the idea of monumentality.

The Filtering Layer Fuencarral Community Center Design Studio 1 | Fall 2018 Instructor: Matan Mayer Fuencarral is a District in Northern Madrid, actually one of the biggest within the Municipality, comprising several and different neighborhoods. Given the strong character of Old Fuencarral itself, and the many in-between areas that its matching within a wider strategy left, an implementation of a public program regarding a Community Center, with a total extension around 2,000 sq meters. Specifically, the site is split into 2 parts; 1-part North and 1-part South. It is located around San Miguel Arcángel Church. For me, I decided to have filtering layers as my conceptual idea. As I move on to the second half of the project, the filtering layer is starting to fit in my project; where it gives different views and feelings as people are passing through it. And since the Church is the main attraction of the points, the two buildings are oriented toward it to indicate that point. Additionally, the procedure for my design is pretty simple, I lay the filtering layers on top of the site first, and then carve out the space within it for each program where I find appropriate.

Continuity, Connection and Central Performance Art Center and School Urban Institutions | Spring 2018 Instructor: Maressa Perreault This is a Performance Art Center and school, that also has its auditorium for public use. The site is mainly designed to make the central part of it to becomes more public with welcoming atmosphere. Therefore, the main reason that the corners of the site are being made as a continuous connection from the street intersection back to the site. Additionally, there are also retail shops on the bottom floor, along with the row house commercial on the top that both circulated around the site. The main aim of this building is to turned the auditorium into the central core and makes everything inside to orbit around it. Additionally, the auditorium is classified as a private space, which is surrounded by a circulation space, with the public spaces are being allocated on the two ends of the building.
