WP Syndicator: This enables you to syndicate your content across multiple blogging and micro blogging platforms and accounts. This helps you to build your backlinks each time you make a post and cascades your content to extend your brand. WP Syndicator allows you do this on complete AutoPilot. Free Traffic Getting SEO Plugin: This plugin is sheer genius. If you're not using this already, just installing this and following the detailed instructions to the letter can boost your traffic massively. This plugin moves your images from your shared hosting to Amazon S3 which enables these to be served from a more powerful infrastructure (unless of course you're blessed to have a more powerful infrastructure than Amazon - in which case you're probably the guys at Google or Yahoo). WP Favicon: OK, not too sexy or anything. It simply enables you to add a Favicon to your blog easily, which is great for branding purposes. All you need is a suitable.gif and.ico file and you're done. Landing Sites: You're always looking to improve the stickiness of your blog as a blogger. That is you want your visitors to stay on your site longer and browse more of your posts. This enables you to build a deeper relationship with your visitors by maximising the visit and reducing the bounce rate. This plugin shows recommended posts that are most similar to other posts based on the search terms the visitor used to arrive on your blog. This of course assumes that the visitor arrived at your blog through the search engines. Amazon S3 for WordPress: If you want to use videos on your blogs, you'll probably want to host without using sites like YouTube, Viddler or Vimeo. There's nothing wrong with these sites. They just display their branding and unmistakable video player all over your blog promoting their business. Amazon S3 is the account you need to host your videos to enable them to stream seamlessly for your users. Don't frustrate your users by letting them stream videos which you're hosting on your own shared server. If you're shelling out for dedicated hosting each month, then fair enough. Askimet: This filters your comments and picks out the ones which are spammy. You don't want your blog to become a target for spam. You do however need to keep an eye on this filter as it could hold valid comments in the spam queue because it picked up on some keywords it considered as spam. You want to encourage as many comments on your blog as possible, so don't annoy your readership by allowing them to believe you haven't accepted their comment. Broken Link Checker: Make sure that broken links aren't being left all over your site, as your site won't be looked at favourably by the search engines for having broken links. If you want to remove the FlowPlayer branding, it will cost you somewhere near $100 for a single site licence, but worth the investment if you're looking to build your brand using your blog. The other excellent video player is JW Player which will cost you for a commercial licence although they do run discount deals quite frequently. I think FlowPlayer has the edge for flash players at the moment. Google Analyticator: This is great if you don't want to delve into source code within your theme editor to add the Google Analytics tracking script so you know your traffic stats. Just in case you're wondering about getting all geeky and delving into the source code, you can simply copy the Google Analytics tracking script and paste it above the closing body tag within footer.php (which you can get to using the theme editor in your WordPress admin area. The closing body tag is at
the bottom and looks like.... Doing this will make your blog just slightly more efficient than using the plugin. Fixed Social Buttons: As an alternative to Sociable, you can use this plugin to allow your visitors to bookmark your content on their favourite social networking and bookmarking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Reddit, Digg, StumbleUpon, Technorati and MySpace. Facebook Comments System: This enables you to use the power of the Facebook commenting system on your own blog. Who hasn't got a Facebook account nowadays? People are often logged into Facebook throughout the day with one of their browser tabs, so they see their picture waiting for them to put a comment against it. If they do choose to post a comment, it could go viral if they choose to post it to their profile for their entire Facebook network to see on their walls. StatPress: This plugin is invaluable for knowing the metrics of your site. Looking at these stats can give your some real insights that you'd never even considered before. I would use this as well as Google Analytics. cbnet Ping Optimizer: Pinging is one of the great features of blogs as pinging gives search engines notification that your blog has new content to crawl. By pinging the search engines, you're requesting them to crawl your content and index it. Gone are the days of waiting several months for your content to be indexed. A good blog is indexed daily and often even more.
