Mobile Phone Applications Mobile applications can be pre-installed on phones during manufacturing platforms, or delivered as web applications using server-side or client-side processing (e.g. JavaScript) to provide an "application-like" experience within a Web browser. The term "app" is a shortening of the term "application software“. In the year of 2009, technology columnist Mr. David Pogue mentioned that newer smartphones could be nicknamed as "app phones" to make difference them from earlier lesssophisticated smartphones.
