This will be accomplished through our promo<onal efforts, support, educa<on, and by celebra<ng pride in the Black LGBT-SGL community’s rich culture, diversity, contribu<ons and achievements. CBP will accomplish this not only during the Pride weekend but also throughout the year.

Vision CBP Vision is to build a strong community through communica<on, posi<ve visibility, and educa<onal opportuni<es while facilita<ng and fostering rela<onships within the Same-Gender-Loving, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community of African descent and as well as the African-American community in whole. They bill themselves as "the defenders of funk, soul, hip-hop and jazz." Liquid Soul has evolved from its street jazz beginnings to encompass a variety of styles, from R&B to hip-hop to world music. The Chicago-based group has played everything from Dennis Rodman's birthday party to the presiden<al inaugural parade. Catch their trademark blend of jazz and urban dance music this weekend at The Promontory. Details: 8 p.m. Friday, The Promontory, 5311 S. Lake Park Ave. West; $12, $20; www.promontorychicago.com

Navy Pier Fireworks: Celebrate the 4th of July in spectacular fashion at Navy Pier, when the Independence Day Fireworks show lights up the skyline with pyrotechnic displays. Navy Pier is expec<ng a capacity crowd for the fireworks shows on Saturday and Monday, so plan to arrive early. With so many people, the choice of vantage point becomes crucial. There’s Freedom Fest 2016 on Navy Pier’s rookop, the Beer Garden, and the east end of Navy Pier where visitors seldom go. But the most exci<ng vantage point might well be the 200-foot-high Centennial Wheel. Note that there are separate fees for the Ferris wheel and Freedom Fest barbecue. Details: 10:15 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 p.m. Monday, Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave.; Fireworks shows are free; www.navypier.com
