You’ll have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extracurricular equine activities, including seminars and clinics with nationally recognized speakers from the equine industry and annual field trips to Equine Affaire and regional farms.
JWU’s equine instructors have broad experience in their fields, offer realistic insight into industry responsibilities and know what it takes to succeed. Many of them bring real-world projects into the classroom or arrange for you to work on current projects with real companies. It doesn’t get more real than that. They also bring industry leaders into the classroom to teach you about opportunities in your field and help you find the career path best suited to your interests.
You can join our competitive hunter seat or dressage team and become an active participant with the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) and Intercollegiate Dressage Association (IDA). Both teams are consistently competitive at the national level. Any JWU student studying any major can join one of our two riding teams.
At JWU, we want you to imagine everything your future can be. And then we’ll help you work toward it.
THE JWU
E Q U I N E CE N T E R JWU’s Equine Center is located in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, just 15 miles from our Providence Campus. Equine Science and Equine Business Management (Riding and Non-Riding) are offered as majors. In addition to horseback riding classes, all students participate in hands-on laboratories at the Equine Center.
Get an inside look at the Equine Center.
The facilities include a radiant-heated 170' x 70' mirrored indoor riding hall with waxed footing, an attached 32-stall barn with a second floor classroom, pastures, turnout paddocks, two round-pens and two show-quality outdoor arenas: a 225' x 100' multipurpose jumping ring and a 220' x 80' dressage ring. A new addition to the facility is a derby-style hunt field with banks, ditches and step jumps.
