Health & Wellness students spend a lot of time in our world-class labs, which simulate real hospital and medical lab settings that are perfect for hands-on learning. Undergraduate students have access to the labs and spaces that our Occupational Therapy Doctorate and Physician Assistant Studies graduate students use.

In today’s world, health is more important than ever. We’re on a mission to help make the world a healthier place, and it all starts with selective programs and smaller class sizes to provide the one-on-one, hands-on education that future health workers will need to deliver the best patient care.

Here, students discover that food can be both fuel and medicine in Dietetics and Applied Nutrition. They study Exercise and Sports Science to learn how to heal injuries and train athletes with a holistic approach. And, they’re even leading the charge to improve community health and prevent disease in the Public Health program.

Every program in the college offers the skills needed to pursue a wide variety of career options within the field. The possibilities are endless, and with Competitive Pathways and Accelerated Program options into graduate and doctoral programs such as Occupational Therapy or Physician Assistant Studies, you can take your education further and earn degrees faster to get into the field and start making a difference.

THE JWU DIFFERENCE: A PERSONALIZED EDUCATION WITH ONE-ON-ONE LEARNING

“We have a lot of free electives. A lot of our students take courses in areas such as political science, and I kind of push them to think about what they want, because I want them to explore different areas that they didn’t realize actually touch on health.”

— Cara Sammartino, Ph.D., M.S.P.H., associate professor and department chair, Health Science “I picked JWU because I’m able to talk directly with each teacher. I would rather have a personal relationship with a professor than be a number … I enjoyed the teachers that I had. It was a very helpful experience, especially thanks to the people in my departments. Professors Rosenthal, Noel and Sammartino were really amazing.”

— Zyon Robinson ’20 Health Science

“I like the fact that, at Johnson & Wales, our students in the health science department represent the world; they are incredibly diverse. We have such a huge portion of first-generation students and such a huge portion of racial and ethnic minority students. I see it as a great opportunity for me to train, mentor, motivate and inspire students from all backgrounds.”

— Samantha Rosenthal, Ph.D., M.P.H., associate professor, Health Science
