If you love working with animals and are looking to make a lucrative career out of it, we’ve got the programs for you. Our new Equine Studies and Animal Science programs were each designed to be more flexible and comprehensive so we can better prepare you to pursue a wider variety of careers. Building on more than 40 years of experience in equine education, we’ve adapted and reimagined our programming to give our students an edge.

ANI MAL SCI ENCE

From our 40+ years of experience in equine education, we’ve crafted this exciting new program which allows you to explore a wide variety of equine-related topics. Plus, you can complete the general course of study or choose from two specializations within the program to customize your degree: Equine Business Management or Equine-assisted Activities and Therapies.

In this program, you’ll apply anatomy, physiology, biology, chemistry, nutrition, reproduction and genetics to the study of animal management, breeding and genetics, growth, behavior, and welfare for a great variety of species.

In this specialization, you’ll take a suite of courses from the College of Business to develop financial literacy, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, operations management and quality management skills. You’ll be prepared to market and manage any aspect of an equine-related business like a boss.

This specialization will allow you to explore the expanding fields of equine-assisted services, including therapeutic riding, equine-assisted learning and hippotherapy. You’ll take courses that enhance and strengthen your qualifications in these areas to pursue a wide variety of careers. Upon completing your degree, you will have the skills and knowledge to pursue careers in therapeutic riding instruction, therapeutic horse management, therapeutic riding program management, and equine-assisted learning and therapy.

Get ready to gain hands-on experience with animals to hone your skills in handling, health maintenance and more. You’ll have the option of completing the general course of study or choosing from two specializations: Equine Science or Pre-Veterinary Studies. EQU IN E S CIE N CE S P ECIA L IZ ATION

This specialization honors our legacy of excellence in equine education while focusing on the science that impacts how to select, care for and manage horses involved in all aspects of the equine industry. Foundational equine classes will develop your understanding of horses with study in anatomy, physiology, behavior, lameness, sports therapy, genetics, nutrition, diseases and reproduction. You’ll be prepared for a variety of science-based careers that work with horses or to continue with graduate studies in equine-related fields.

P R E-VE TE R IN A RY STU D IE S S P ECIA L IZ ATION

This specialization offers a suite of courses that will qualify you to pursue a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. You’ll complete major prerequisite course requirements for application to American Veterinary Medical Association-accredited veterinary schools within the United States as well as other animal and science-related graduate studies programs.
