HAPPY. HEALTHY. HOME.

What families should know about life at JWU

AT JWU, YOUR STUDENT WILL FIND A HOME filled with a community of faculty mentors, support staff and peers to rely on. It’s also filled with events and traditions that bring students together to celebrate diversity and inclusion. The community is protected around the clock by Campus Safety & Security, who also offers workshops, education series and prevention opportunities to learn more about safety. Meals are best enjoyed together, and dining services help bring every Wildcat to the same table with menus for special dietary restrictions, observances and holidays.

THIS IS HOME. I would know — and I am proof that JWU creates a welcoming atmosphere for people to thrive. I came here as a first-generation transfer student with learning differences. After 20 years working in student affairs, I am now the assistant provost for student achievement here at JWU. So indeed, this is home. I can’t wait for your student to make JWU their home, too. We’re excited to welcome your entire family to the Wildcat community! Sincerely, Dameian Slocum, Ed.D. Assistant Provost for Student Achievement Johnson & Wales University

LIVING ON CAMPUS

JWU requires all first, secondand third-year students to live in university housing — and that’s by design. When students live on campus, they are more likely to be successful academically, socially and developmentally. On-campus living offers your student convenience, a quality living space and added security compared to off-campus living (and it usually offers families a little more peace of mind). It also allows them to feel more connected to the community because they are immersed in what’s happening on campus. At the Providence Campus, there are many residence hall options ranging from rooms, apartments, and suites. These can be double-, triple-, or quad-occupancy and can have a private bathroom or share a common bathroom. At the Charlotte Campus, there are two-bedroom suites for two people or four people with a shared bath in-suite. Every JWU residence hall offers recreational lounge spaces, on-site or nearby laundry options and residential staff to support your student. Gender-inclusive and pet-friendly living options are available. If you feel that your student has extenuating circumstances that would prevent them from living on campus, exemptions may be requested. Please contact Providence Residential Life (reslife.pvd@jwu.edu) or Charlotte Residential Life (reslife.clt@jwu.edu) to learn more.

LIVING ON CAMPUS

Campus Safety & Security provides 24/7 protection 365 days a year. This includes: • Officers patrolling campus • Blue Light emergency phones located around campus • Building access with an ID card, so only JWU community members are entering buildings • A multimodal message system to send emergency alerts and information via text, email or phone call

LIVING ON CAMPUS

GOOD FOOD IS N E V E R FA R On campus dining options are conveniently located in or near residence halls so your student can grab a bite to eat using their meal plan or flex dollars, which they can purchase in the housing portal when they apply for housing. Meal plans vary for each campus, but every JWU dining hall offers a variety of options to accommodate dietary restrictions.

THIS IS WHERE FRIENDSHIPS ARE FORMED... Your student will discover that it’s easy to get involved and meet new people at JWU. With tons of student clubs and organizations spanning all kinds of interests, a calendar full of events on campus, and varsity sports teams to play for or cheer on, there’s no shortage of opportunities to make new friends.

…AND CAREERS A R E S TA R T E D . You want your student to enjoy the college experience, but what comes after college is just as important. Our Experiential Education & Career Services office connects students with incredible academic, internship and job opportunities to build their resume and learn in a professional environment. With a JWU education, your student will graduate with the skills and experience they need to land a great job. The numbers don’t lie — JWU students continue to achieve career outcomes that are higher than the national average.
