PROFESSORS WHO OPEN NEW DOORS

A great mentor is easy to find at JWU — in addition to your assigned faculty mentor, you’ll soon discover that every professor is eager to help you find your passion, connect you with opportunities and offer guidance when you need it. With our small class sizes, it will be easy for you to build a strong connection with your professors in and out of the classroom.

You’ll hear this word a lot interdisciplinary /ˌin(t)ərˈdisəpləˌnerē/ adjective

Involving two or more academic, scientific or artistic fields of study.

Ex. “Media & Communication students recently collaborated with Graphic Design students to produce interdisciplinary projects, including an immersive art exhibit and a fashion show.”

SPACES THAT CHALLENGE THE DEFINITION OF CLASSROOM

JWU’s lab spaces and facilities are not your traditional classrooms. They are designed to fuel your curiosity and professional development by simulating real-world environments and offering cutting edge technology and equipment. Though every space on our campus is available to students in every college, you’ll often find your Arts & Sciences peers (or yourself!) in these areas.

The professors here are amazing. They have worked hands-on in the field, and they share their past experiences with us. It’s a better learning experience when it’s personal rather than reading from a book. They’re extremely supportive and passionate, not only in their field and with what they’re teaching, but they’re also passionate about what we want to do and what our career choices are. They really want the best for us.”

Welcome to Johnson & Wales University — you’re officially a Wildcat!

My name is Hillary, and I am a senior majoring in media & communication with an advertising minor. With my love for production, a close-knit community, and the city of Providence, I knew JWU was the right match for me. Regardless of your major, our professors are very caring and always guiding us. They will encourage you to be the best version of yourself and take pride in being a Wildcat. If you enjoy fun classes, working on projects from real industry clients and being yourself, you’re coming to the right place. It’s definitely worth getting excited about!

During my time at JWU, I took part in ADTEAM, a club that brings students in majors such as graphic design, advertising, marketing and media & communication studies together to work on an ad campaign. What’s really cool about ADTEAM is that I worked on campaigns for Meta, Indeed and Tide as part of the National Student Advertising Competition through the American Advertising Federation. It truly feels like an ad agency when students are coming together to research, strategize and execute the creative vision for that year’s client.

I also worked hands-on with the university as a social media student assistant. You may have seen some of my content before on @JWUProvidence, and it’s been a blast! I love coming up with fun ideas and bringing them to life through Reels, TikToks and videos for our YouTube channel.

I have even been able to work with Disney through a Directed Experiential Education (DEE) course that partnered with the Providence Performing Arts Center, and I had the opportunity to become the student speaker at commencement. My journey at JWU was quite a thrilling ride.

I wish you the best of luck in your four years here — make the journey YOURS and the moments count!

Best wishes,

Thilavong ’23

The Center for Media Production (CMP) is my favorite lab space. Imagine yourself in Hollywood shooting the next blockbuster, innovative commercial or photo series of the century — all of this can be done in our well-equipped studio.”
