Congratulations on your acceptance to JWU!
I’m Rebecca Simon, the associate dean of the College of Health & Wellness, and I’m so excited to welcome you to our community.
I’m an occupational therapist by training and completed my undergraduate degree in Healthcare Administration. I am proud of the health professions that have brought me into this role and inspired me to continue bringing students like you into the field!
At JWU, our students enjoy experiences with industry professionals that go beyond the “walls” of healthcare facilities. You’ll get to engage with healthcare as it relates to the community that surrounds us, including food, nutrition — even culinary kitchens! JWU Health & Wellness Wildcats actively participate in local, regional and national events, and are regularly published in peer-reviewed journals. These experiences will help set you apart from the competition when you apply to graduate school or apply to jobs after graduation.
Our small, custom programs offer you the ability to truly get to know your faculty, meet friends who are interested in the same things as you and join clubs with meaning.
Please contact me personally at rebecca.simon@jwu.edu with any questions, or even to introduce yourself and tell me why you’re excited to join our community.

A COLLEGE THAT UNLOCKS YOUR POTENTIAL
You’ll make a difference in the College of Health & Wellness. While learning how to deliver the best patient care, students are discovering that food can be both fuel and medicine and leading the charge to improve community health and prevent disease.
Each program in the college offers the training needed to build skills for a wide variety of career options in fields such as patient or client care, healthcare administration or community health work.
You may also decide to continue your studies in a graduate or doctoral program to become an occupational therapist, physician assistant, nurse, doctor, or nutritionist — there are so many possibilities in the healthcare field, and JWU will help you prepare for whichever one you choose.

NURSING ARRIVES AT JWU CHARLOTTE
An exciting recent addition to the College of Health & Wellness is the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. This accelerated program is designed for individuals who already hold a bachelor’s degree or higher and wish to pursue nursing as a career.
Students in the nursing program will have access to the brand-new Nursing Lab, a fully functional simulation center designed to mimic a wide range of medical scenarios across the patient lifespan and includes all the state-of-the-art tools and equipment.
Many of our Health Science and Public Health students (and perhaps you!) have the goal of pursuing a nursing degree after they complete their program, and now they can take that next step at JWU.

SPACES THAT CHALLENGE THE DEFINITION OF CLASSROOM
JWU’s lab spaces and facilities are not your traditional classrooms. They are designed to fuel your curiosity and professional development by simulating real-world environments and offering cutting-edge technology and equipment. Though every space on our campus is available to students in every college, you’ll often find your health and wellness peers (or yourself!) in these areas.
We have the best facilities to engage in hands-on learning. From personal experience, our science labs are my favorite. We have the nicest labs that I have ever seen. We are just that lucky.”

PROFESSORS WHO OPEN NEW DOORS
A great mentor is easy to find at JWU — in addition to your assigned faculty mentor, you’ll soon discover that every professor is eager to help you find your passion, connect you with opportunities and offer guidance when you need it. With our small class sizes, it will be easy for you to build a strong connection with your professors in and out of the classroom.
You’ll hear this word a lot
Your belief that parts of something are interconnected and can only be explained when you reference the whole; your treatment of the whole person rather than just the symptoms of an illness.
Ex.: “Programs such as Public Health explore a holistic approach to health, where students discover how important nutrition, exercise science, psychology, sociology, public health and economics can be to a humanistic delivery of healthcare.”

Welcome to Johnson & Wales University — we’re excited to have you join our Wildcat family!
My name is Trinity Knauf, and I am a senior here at JWU. I am currently majoring in health science with a minor in psychology, and I have loved every second of my journey here. When choosing Johnson & Wales, I knew I needed a strong sense of community, acceptance, drive, opportunity and fun. JWU provided that for me. I became the best version of myself while attending college here because I thrived in the environment JWU provides, and I know you will too!
Throughout my journey here, I have played two sports, joined several clubs, participated in many events held on campus, landed a job and plenty more. Regardless of how you decide to engage yourself throughout your years here, you will have a blast because there is something for everyone!
The faculty here at JWU are truly the best of the best — they go above and beyond to give you a supreme college experience. Our professors are very caring, helpful and insightful when it comes to our education, and our student engagement team works very hard to make your experience outside of class fun and memorable. Our athletic department engages all students — even if you don’t play a sport — to create a strong sense of community through sporting activities. Our financial aid, admissions and academic services are always there to lend a helping hand.
There is so much opportunity here for you at JWU. Our university works closely with many internship programs to give you field experience for your intended career path. You will also have an advisor who can assist you with finding internships and selecting courses. This helps you stay on track, have a plan and make the most of your college experience.
There are so many exciting classes you can take at JWU, even some not affiliated with your major, and there’s always something to do in the surrounding area. Being in the heart of our beautiful Queen City, you will have the opportunity to find a part-time job, go to local sporting events, grab lunch at a local food place and so much more, all within walking distance! You will never get bored while being here.
Overall, JWU was the best choice for college I could’ve made, and I would not change it for the world. Now it is time for you to start your own journey. Have fun, stay on top of your studies and be the best version of yourself you can be. I wish you the best in your future endeavors and I can’t wait to see you soon.
Best of luck,
Trinity Knauf ’25
