PROFESSORS WHO OPEN NEW DOORS

A great mentor is easy to find at JWU — in addition to your assigned faculty mentor, you’ll soon discover that every professor is eager to help you find your passion, connect you with opportunities and offer guidance when you need it. With our small class sizes, it will be easy for you to build a strong connection with your professors in and out of the classroom.

SPACES THAT CHALLENGE THE DEFINITION OF CLASSROOM

JWU’s lab spaces and facilities are not your traditional classrooms. They are designed to fuel your curiosity and professional development by simulating real-world environments and offering cutting-edge technology and equipment. Though every space on our campus is available to students in every college, you’ll often find your hospitality management peers (or yourself!) in these areas.

In the College of Hospitality Management, you have so many different people with different interests, and everyone gets a really individualized program of study. But with that, you also get a taste of everything else because JWU is really good about providing that all-encompassing knowledge that’s necessary to thrive in the hospitality industry.”

The act of absorbing and learning from your surroundings by putting yourself right in the middle of the action.

Ex.: “JWU students learn through immersion by managing on-campus restaurants, taking trips to foreign countries and producing live events for fellow students.”

Hello Wildcat, welcome to Johnson & Wales!

My name is Shaye Castillo, and I’m a junior studying hospitality management. I knew coming to JWU would provide me with endless opportunities to utilize in my career. The combination of experiential education with the ability to network with professors and professionals at JWU has become extremely valuable throughout my time here. The faculty in the College of Hospitality Management devote their attention to pushing students toward their goals and preparing them for the reality of the industry.

This past semester, I took a class called The Business of Event Management which required me to work at different events, giving me hands-on experience and knowledge outside of the university. It was great exposure to the workings of the industry out in the real world. These types of classes are what make me look forward to doing an internship this summer!

Congratulations on taking a step closer to your future — you should be proud and excited to be in one of the best places for your path. Your time here will go faster than you could imagine.

One piece of advice: take advantage of the knowledge around you. Get to know your professors and make connections in your classes. You never know, they may become your connections in the business.

Good luck, and I hope you have an amazing time here!
