All programs offer a student-teaching experience in K–12 schools to complete the M.A.T. program. The Culinary Arts Education concentration also offers student teaching at JWU.
Structure
• Five-semester, full-time program
• 36-48 credits, including foundational courses and student teaching experience

Designed to develop exemplary teachers, our M.Ed. program in Teaching and Learning is cohort-based, where you will enter and progress through the program with a team approach to studying and solving educational programs. You will focus on the integration of theory, research and application throughout your program, diving deep into problembased learning, applied research, collaborative learning, technology integration and experiential learning.
Structure
• Two-year, cohort model with classes meeting once a week during the academic year (no summer classes)
• 36 credits consisting of eight classes
• Consecutive courses allowing students to focus on one class at a time

JWU’s prominent Educational Leadership Ed.D. program will prepare you to impact educational practices with advanced skills and methods in communication, research, problem solving, technology, collaboration and more.
You will enter and progress through JWU’s Ed.D. program as a cohort, fostering a team approach to studying and solving educational problems as well as interpreting and disseminating the results of such study. Our program establishes a true network of working scholars who can examine, critique, support and complement one another’s educational practice.
Structure
• With faculty mentors and dissertation support, most students finish in three years
• 60 credit hours (48 hours of coursework and 12 hours of dissertation work)
• CAGS (Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies) awarded upon completion of coursework
• Defend a dissertation focused on original research about a contemporary topic of your interest or passion
• Flexible class schedule meeting every other weekend with remote classes on Fridays and face-to-face classes on Saturdays
• Choose your track in ElementarySecondary Education or Higher Education

“JWU’s Ed.D. program is for, by and about practitioners,” says Associate Professor Victor Mercurio, Ed.D., who spent 30 years in Rhode Island’s K-12 public system as a teacher, principal, program director and superintendent before joining JWU’s faculty.
“It’s incumbent upon me to make sure that I provide students with not only something that they can use immediately on Monday to solve a problem, but something that they’re thinking about and that’s resonating with them three years from Monday.”
